HSBC Asset Management (AM), the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC's worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. HSBC Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC's clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight. We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team at a Director level. This is a senior role within the NAV Partnership Fund team which has been established by HSBC Asset Management (AM) to provide alternative strategic capital against Private Equity (PE) portfolios. This may be in the form of financing against PE Fund portfolios, to LPs of PE portfolios or directly to PE GPs / Sponsors. In this role you will:

  • Have responsibility for leading the assessment and analysis of alternative credit transactions (NAV loans) for recommendation to Investment Committees and the ongoing monitoring of the portfolio.
  • Building strong relationships with Financial Sponsors, Debt advisors, Market peers, and other internal origination and product professionals in order to best position the Asset Management Fund for transactions.
  • Conduct reviews of the underlying portfolio composition (portfolio companies, Fund LP positions or other collateral pools to include fees, co-investments and carry) and lead the structuring of transactions either for the Fund directly, or in conjunction with Global Banking
  • Regularly assess Fund reports, business plans, third party due diligence reports (financial, commercial, legal and tax structuring reports) and other bespoke diligence (ESG, etc), and build/ test assumptions of financial models with a high degree of focus on the underlying cashflow profile of each deal.
  • Management of transaction documentation process to ensure that investments are completed in an efficient manner including oversight of investments post completion including identifying investments showing potential signs of stress or distress.
  • Coaching of junior team members to ensure sharing of best practices and continued technical development on modelling, credit analysis, legal terms, market terms, etc.

    To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Demonstrate experience relevant to the seniority gained in alternative credit, leveraged finance, structured finance or similar with direct exposure to Financial Sponsors.
  • Possess a very high level of commercial acumen and awareness, including of economic, cultural, procedural and regulatory issues of business.
  • Experience of assessing credit risk within financing structures to PE Funds, portfolios companies or against pools of LP exposures
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build strong working relationships with all stakeholders including financial sponsors, advisors or leveraged corporates in order to be viewed as a 'Trusted Advisor'.
  • Advanced communication skills, including written, verbal, and the ability to deliver compelling presentations to people at all levels within the business.
  • Highly analytical including working with financial models and an understanding of the fundamentals of investment appraisal.
  • Degree qualification, preferably in finance, commerce, economics. A post-graduate qualification eg. IMC, CFA, ACCA/ACA would be desirable but not essential.

    This role is based in HSBC office at 8 Canada Square London you should be able to travel to London on a weekly basis. The role will involve travel (domestic & International) for client meetings and other role related reasons.
