Full Job Description
This Lead Engineer will report to the EPN Operations Manage and will work within Capital Programme - Investment Delivery based in our Colchester office. You will be a permanent employee., As the Lead Engineer you will lead a team of 3 to 4 Engineers that help to deliver major projects in CPP and will be responsible for planning and organising technical resource across the EPN Operations team to ensure project requirements are met. You will also assist with operational activities., You will manage the coordination and performance of several project and commissioning engineers carrying out APP and Major Connection projects. This will ensure works are carried out to time, cost and quality standards, having overview responsibility for delivery of Projects with close liaison with Programme / Portfolio Managers, Alliance Partners, Outage Planning, Infrastructure Planning, Connections and Networks Operations Area Managers.,
- Provide engineering, safety and management leadership to a group of project and commissioning engineers working across all operational disciplines.
- Plan resource allocations to ensure Project requirements are met.
- Ensure the level of engineering within the portfolio is improved and that engineers are developed
- Deputise for the Operations Manager
- To collaborate with the stakeholders in prioritising the critical capital workload to be delivered within the LPN footprint ensuring that it is completed promptly.
- Ensure that a high standard of safety management prevails throughout all responsibilities and that safety performance is maintained within parameters defined by the Executive.
- Ensure staff comply with Company procedures and complete work to the required standards.
- Coordinate with the resource planning manager to schedule all planned work so that they are delivered in a safe, prompt and cost efficient manner.
- Coordinate with Commissioning Engineers and Programme / Portfolio Managers to ensure most efficient resource are available for planned project work.
- Liaise on matters of operational, plant and cable policy with Asset Management experts to ensure the right balance is maintained between safety, cost, quality and delivery.
- Support daily planning, coordination and real-time responsibility for the efficient utilisation of resources
- Removal of barriers to the efficient delivery of work within all directorates.
- Work with Project Supervisors to improve customer experiences.
- Establishing a process of continuous improvement through the development of staff and adoption of new technologies
- To perform Field Engineer operational audits.
- Contribute to an ongoing high-level Strategic Resource Plan.
- Support the team in preparation, readiness and implementation for a system emergency at local tactical team.
You will be an experienced engineer with a understanding of the business from an operational perspective. As an important member of the Operational team within London, you will have a significant level of communication skills demonstrating balanced judgement in all matters, particular those relating to people at all levels. Additionally, the post holder must - Communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate they are practical and results oriented by virtue of their actions, in the form of moving others to action by planning, motivating, organising and controlling tasks and deliverables
- Knowledge in respect of logistics and commercial issues producing well-reasoned proposals and solutions.
- Deliver complex customer and operationally guided projects and programmes to time and budget. Knowledge, Skills and Experience: You will have a high level of experience in field engineering whilst being able to demonstrate a high level of initiative and commitment towards meeting business targets. The base level qualifications/courses are as follows;-
- Degree or HNC/D in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Full SAP at 11kV, 33kV and 132kV
- NEBOSH Certificate
- 3 day Leadership and 1 day Communication skills course To recognise the significance of this position you will take a proactive approach towards continuing their professional development in engineering, safety, leadership and general management. Therefore will be encouraged to be a member of the IET at the grade of EngTech or higher. Key Competencies:

You will attract a salary of £89,786 + car/allowance and a bonus of 3%. Close Date: 27/04/2025 We also provide the following additional benefits - 25 Days Annual Leave plus bank holidays.
