Full Job Description

The post holder will clinically lead the Prosthetics Service for Artificial Limb and Appliances Services (ALAS), and will have a clinically autonomous input relating to the management of highly complex clinical cases, working within multi-disciplinary teams (MDT's) in relation to the assessment and provision of prostheses.

The post holder will be an integral member of the senior management team and will contribute to ongoing service development, integration and redesign through the demonstration of expert clinical knowledge.

The post holder will provide effective leadership, setting, monitoring and maintaining professional standards within the service area. They will work collaboratively to manage complaints and lead clinical contribution in Clinical Governance within service area and to directorate level.

They will contribute to innovative solutions to workforce, demand and capacity management strategies and to key performance outcomes within the service.

The post holder will be responsible for the formulation and implementation of individualised highly specialised clinical management programmes using highly specialised clinical reasoning skills and integration of expert knowledge of evidenced based practice to autonomously assess and diagnose patients across a range of patient groups including those with highly complex needs., To be professionally responsible for the provision of the prosthetics service for patients in South East Wales.

Line manage the day-to-day complex activities of the prosthetics clinical staff ensuring effective use of professional skills and resources.

To autonomously assess patients with a diverse range of medical, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and tools and develop a personalised treatment plan including prescription, manufacture and provision of appropriate prosthesis.

Analyse and interpret a range of highly complex clinical information in order to determine the most appropriate prosthetic management, including patients with high risk of pressure damage.

To ensure that the specialist Prosthetic service delivered is evidence based and under regular review to establish whether it is meeting the needs of patients in line with strategic direction.

To identify and understand the implications of national clinical guidelines and policies and, where necessary, assist in the development local clinical guidelines which ensure that the Prosthetic service meets ongoing clinical governance requirements.

To manage and partake in theimplementation of policies, standards and procedures and monitor these by means of auditing systems

To undertake an area of clinical research relevant to the Prosthetic Service.

To lead the prosthetics Service and the provision of Prosthetic products across South East Wales.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
