Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Local Assistance Scheme Team. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, hardworking individual who is willing to take on a challenge and committed to developing their skills and knowledge. This is a permanent post for 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.
As a Local Assistance Officer, you will be responsible for gathering evidence to determine a customer's eligibility to receive financial assistance for living costs during times of crisis as well as determining entitlement to support grants to assist vulnerable adults in maintaining independent living within the community. You will be calculating awards in line with defined guidance for which you will receive training.
Duties will include dealing with sensitive and confidential information, maintaining systems and using a range of software packages.
Main responsibilities include:

Processing and verifying applications accurately and in accordance with the relevant guidance.
To access the DWP Searchlight system to obtain information relating to customer's income.
To make discretionary decisions in a timely manner.
To communicate effectively with customers both over the telephone, email and in writing.
Ideally you will have some knowledge or understanding of welfare benefits, excellent ICT skills and the ability to work under pressure. You should be able to work to individual targets and as part of a team to ensure the team meets their service standards. Within this role you will be working with vulnerable service users and their families.
