Full Job Description

Mitie Care & Custody (C&C) is driven by a bold vision: to establish HMP Millsike as a place of restoration and rehabilitation, where prisoners can unlock their full potential and make meaningful, positive changes in their lives. We are excited by the opportunity Millsike presents: a blank canvas on which we can paint a bright future for our prisoners. Our mission is clear: to create an environment that empowers, inspires, and supports individuals to re-enter society with hope, purpose, and a life plan. To achieve this, we will set a culture of rehabilitation and restoration underpinned by integrity and high expectations. Prisoners will experience a dramatic shift from traditional prison environments. Millsike will be a vibrant, bustling community, teeming with industry, activity and opportunities for personal growth. Above all, we will ensure our approach offers a deep sense of safety/respect, through a supportive, uplifting environment, that helps prisoners to see their
potential and that unlocks a brighter future for all.

Job objectives and responsibilities

Join our team at HMP Millsike, providing Building Fabric maintenance support, including PPM, reactive, and breakdown support. Reporting to the Senior FM Engineering Supervisor/Head of FM, you'll manage PPM, Day works, Statutory compliance, and Callouts.

You'll ensure all equipment is maintained and repaired efficiently, focusing on operational efficiency and safety. Your role includes implementing planned and reactive maintenance for Locking/Physical Security tasks, ensuring compliance with safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

As a trainer/mentor to prisoner working groups, you'll complete PPM and Helpdesk tasks, maintain SHE standards, and liaise with engineers and subcontractors. You'll proactively address client concerns and develop a thorough understanding of site engineering services and contractual requirements.

You'll minimize emissions, comply with COSHH requirements, and enforce business risk management procedures. Participation in duty standby/call-out rosters and emergency response teams is required. You'll support best working practices, complete documentation accurately, troubleshoot site issues, and recommend remedial actions.

Coordinating connections to existing systems, you'll maintain O&M Manuals and quality procedures. Availability for scheduled and unplanned weekend work is required. Completing all PPMs and reactive maintenance on time and closing out in SAP to meet Mitie SLAs is crucial.

The ideal candidate will possess basic to intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with some experience in updating systems. They should have completed an apprenticeship or hold an equivalent qualification, and possess an IOSH or equivalent certification. A Level 3 Diploma for Commercial Locksmiths and Property Security, as well as Level 3 multi-skilled engineering qualifications, are required.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, including the ability to take notes effectively. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and demonstrate flexibility within contracted hours. A strong team player with a 'can do' attitude, they should be intuitive and proactive by nature.

High moral standards and absolute integrity are crucial for this role. The candidate must comply with company and statutory regulations related to safe systems of work, health and safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and localised fire regulation procedures.

As a business, Mitie Care & Custody is committed to diversity and inclusion and we would welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds including veterans, those looking for a career change, and people who have experience in social care or a learning environment. Full training will be given where applicable, and we would encourage anyone who might be thinking about a role in a secure establishment to get in touch.
