Locum Consultant Paed Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgeon

The post is designed to further the development of the Freeman Hospital paediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery programme. The successful applicant will be expected to continue development of the unit as a world leading provider of heart and lung transplantation.

Please read attached Job Description and Person Specification., The applicant will be expected to organise out-of-hours duty rosters, and ensure that clinical outcome data collection is complete and submitted to the appropriate national body.
Research:
The successful applicant will assist with the clinical research programmes which are established at the Freeman Hospital and will be expected to interface as required with basic science research at the University of Newcastle.
Teaching:
The successful applicant will be expected to play a major part in the teaching activity of the unit. In theatre teaching will be required, mostly directed at one SpR at a time. The successful applicant is expected to be heavily involved in organising teaching programmes for cardiology trainees, paediatric intensive care trainees, and to wider audiences both medical and professions allied to medicine.
Flexibility:
In line with the Trust's core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.

The successful applicant will have experience in neonatal, paediatric and adult surgery for congenital cardiac disease. They will have had significant experience in providing mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplantation in both children and adult congenital patients.
This post is a 10PA post plus on call for 12 months to commence as soon as possible.
