Full Job Description
As a Mechanical Maintenance Assistant you will need to be keen, enthusiastic and physically fit. The main activities are maintenance, reactive repairs, compliance monitoring and associated remedial
work.
Applicants should be able to prioritise their work, parts and materials and carry out tasks from appropriate technical instructions/drawings, specifications in a safe, tidy manner and be capable of working on their own initiative. The Main Hospitals and Community Properties include forensic buildings.
The trust provides a wide range of mental health services to the local community as well as nationally. To maintain continuity of service there will be times when extra hours, altered work patterns/duties is required as well as a requirement to undertake training to remain current with relevant standards and practices.

You will need to be keen, enthusiastic, and pro-active with the ability to motivate and organise the team providing a high-quality service to the trust. Working as part of a large team you will be required to be smart and have a courteous attitude in keeping with the Capital, Estates & Facilities
high standards. There is close communication with the compliance team, contractors, works and ward staff to achieve a high compliance standard.
Facts and Figures:
The Estate covers four borough hospitals and over 80 community buildings. Estates teams are both site and trust wide. The South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust provides care and treatment for people with mental health problems in seven London boroughs and nationally. These services include: - Crisis Care - Community Mental Health Teams - Early Intervention - Home Treatment - Forensic Services - Talking Therapies - Memory Clinics - Outpatients Services, 1. To undertake planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and emergency works as demanded by a Hospital of this type. Use all skills, experience and knowledge ensuring safe working methods to carry out maintenance tasks in the most cost effective way for the Trust
2. To understand the workings of buildings, engineering services and systems in NHS/Trust premises. Ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner
3. To carry out work in a timely manner as requested using the current works requisition system and ensuring that any associated information is recorded.
4. To work as part of a departmental team and where necessary support colleagues of all levels and disciplines as required.
5. To provide a maintenance service to all Trust buildings, off site properties and be able to work unsupervised.
6. To maintain continuity of service there will be times when extra hours, altered work patterns, duties or location are required.
7. To keep up to date with current legislation and attend training courses as directed by Estate Management
8. To be able to work safely in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, current guidance and to follow any other safety policies as issued by the Trust
9. To be compassionate and mindful to our clients and be mindful of the need for safe use, security, storage of plant, equipment and tools
10. To drive between trust properties in a safe and timely manner adhering to trust policies
