Full Job Description

The Lead Mechanical Technician (LMech) reports directly to the Technical Services Supervisor (TSS) and is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient execution of planned and reactive tasks. These tasks may be performed by in-house employees or managed through subcontractors. This is a hands-on supervisory role that involves participation in a shift rota as directed by the Technical Services Manager.,

  • TSS Support: Act as a deputy for the TSS when needed.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in emergency escalation procedures, including out-of-hours technical support as required.
  • Professional Standards: Uphold the highest professional standards within the team.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all personnel, including contractors, adhere to safe working practices, utilizing Safe Systems of Work such as RAMS, LOTO, etc.
  • Certification Maintenance: Maintain current certifications and appointments as the site Authorised Person (AP) in the required disciplines.
  • Resource Management: Allocate resources to ensure the timely completion of work orders in line with contractual and professional standards.
  • Operational Duties:
  • Client Systems: Ensure that client equipment and systems function correctly to meet operational needs, escalating issues when necessary to mitigate risks.
  • Work Order Prioritization: Assist in prioritizing work orders, coordinating with the DigiHub/Helpdesk and end users regarding repair needs.
  • Fault Diagnosis: Diagnose and repair technical faults within your area of expertise.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all technical activities comply with Engineering Standards and industry best practices, including those carried out by subcontractors.
  • Asset Management: Perform like-for-like asset replacements and manage minor new works as directed.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, and team members, both on-site and remotely.
  • Training and Development: Support the ongoing training and development of team members.
  • Cost Efficiency: Be mindful of cost-benefit considerations in all tasks performed.
  • Sustainability: Consider the sustainability implications of technical services provided.
  • Reporting and Compliance:
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates to the TSS on work order status and resource needs.
  • Standards Adherence: Ensure that all team members adhere to the established Engineering Standards.
  • Training: Complete all required training modules and achieve the necessary competencies for this role.

    Technical Expertise: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification, preferably in a mechanical discipline.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in practical technical skills with current knowledge of engineering standards and best practices.
  • Independent Working: Experience working independently in a technical maintenance environment.
  • Health and Safety: Proven experience adhering to health and safety standards.
  • IT Proficiency: Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Self-Management: Ability to independently manage and plan workloads to meet deadlines.
