Full Job Description
Are you a proactive and technically skilled professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact? We are seeking a Mechanical Ventilation Manager to ensure the compliance and efficiency of critical Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems, fume cupboards, and containment systems at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) Estate. This role is essential in maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental control in line with HSG 258 (COSHH) and DSTL's requirements., In this position, you will take charge of the thorough examination and testing (TeXT) of ventilation systems, ensuring they meet all regulatory and operational standards. You will work closely with DSTL Facilities Managers, technical teams, and the VIVO Operations team, providing expert guidance and technical support.
Your responsibilities will include producing high-quality risk assessments and method statements, monitoring system performance, identifying defects, and ensuring timely remedial action is taken. Additionally, you will play a key role in helping the Ministry of Defence achieve its carbon reduction targets.
To excel in this role, you must have strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and experience in supervising site operations, managing resources, and planning work effectively. A management-level qualification in Health & Safety (such as SMSTS), strong IT skills, and experience in direct customer communication are essential. You must also hold a full UK driving license, be over 18, and be eligible to obtain SC security clearance.
Desirable skills include experience working in an MOD environment, knowledge of LEV systems, and familiarity with regulations such as the Asbestos at Work Act and sustainability practices. As a leader within this specialist field, you will influence stakeholders, negotiate solutions, and ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance across all ventilation-related systems.
