Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Neonatal Services at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for Band 4 Nursery Nurse for our busy Level 2 (LNU) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Peterborough City Hospital. The post holder is expected to work closely with all disciplines to ensure the delivery of a high standard of care for babies and their families in the ward/department. 1. Provide individualised holistic nursing care in a sensitive manner, under the supervision of registered nursing staff. 2. To have an understanding of the importance of the family's contribution to care, support them during their baby's admission and involve them in the care as appropriate. 3. To act as an advocate for babies within the ward/department. 4. Understand the importance of the need for confidentiality and information sharing. 5. Play an active role in health promotion and parent craft teaching. 6. To adhere to policies laid down by the Trust and inform the nurse in charge of shift on matters that affect implementation of the agreed policies. 7. Ensure due regard to given customs, values and spiritual beliefs of families. 8. Ensure accurate and clear records are kept according to NMC guidelines for Records and Record Keeping and ensure all written records are countersigned by a registered nurse. 9. Participate in a clinical supervision group and contribute to regular ward meetings. 10. Maintain knowledge base by attending relevant training. 11. Actively participate in Service Development Projects and Initiatives such as undertaking Link Nurse Roles, within sphere of knowledge and practice, and membership of ward project groups/working parties with the support and supervision of senior staff. 12. Work cross site within neonatal services if required. Orientation will be provided. Ensure that all contacts with neonates and visitors to the ward are handled in a sensitive and competent manner. 2. Act as a host to visitors to the ward and promote the profile of the ward/department. 3. Support new staff and participate in their orientation. 4. Ensure effective communications within the multidisciplinary team. 5. Maintain a happy and friendly atmosphere for patients in accordance with the unit philosophy of Family Centred Care and a positive environment for staff. Educational Role 1. Acting as a member of the ward team, contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the ward as a learning environment for students. 2. Assist in the mentoring process of Learner Nurses, liaising with the Clinical Educator / Ward Manager as appropriate. 3. Assist in the induction and supervision of new colleagues. 4. Participate in the teaching programme for learner nurses and parents/carers. 5. Attend mandatory training and complete online training as per Trust Policy. Human Resources 1. Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process 2. Complete all competency documentation as required subject to local guidelines Clinical and Practice Governance 1. Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. 2. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies. 3. The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes 4. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures 5. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust. 6. Participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis 7. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team. 8. Take part in highlighting potential risks through the clinical governance and critical incident reporting system. 9. Participate in audit for clinical practice and assist with data collection for research and actively participate in ward developments under the supervision of senior nursing staff. 10. Assist in maintaining ward stores, equipment and requisitioning with due economy.
