Would you like to be part of the Neonatal Unit Team?

We are looking for Team Support Workers to join the Neonatal Unit at the Evelina London Children's Hospital part of Guy's and St Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust

We are a large supportive neonatal team who take pride in the high standards of care that we deliver. Teamwork between all disciplines is paramount and this is demonstrated by the positive outcomes of the babies we care for.

We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic staff to take on a non-patient facing role as a Team Support Worker joining an established support worker team. You need to be proactive, hard working and a team player.

The role is non patient facing and is to support the nursing and medical teams to provide life saving care to babies on the neonatal unit. This involves cleaning essential and highly specialised equipment, adhering to strict infection control policies, laundry of baby clothes/sheets. Daily restocking bedside trolleys in all of the nurseries on the neonatal unit. Keeping the unit tidy with high standards of organisation and supporting the team on the neonatal unit

Shift patterns = 5 x 7.5 hours shifts per week (less if part time) covering weekends and Public Holidays. Early and late shifts -08:00-16:00hrs and 12:00-20:00hrs, To assist under supervision to ensure the effective and efficient running of the ward/department.

To maintain own personal development with support fromward/departmental manager.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care and principles.

Provide a comprehensive and quality support service to staff, parents/babies and relatives on the neonatal unit. Also, to ensure the continuous supply of disposable items required on the neonatal unit

2. Key Relationships

The post holder will have key working relationships with the Lead Nurse, Matrons, Nursing Staff, Neonatal Outreach Team, Consultants and Junior Medical Staff, Allied Health Professionals, Administrative and Clerical Support Staff, Medical Engineering Staff.

3. Duties and Responsibilities

§ To provide excellent customer care skills and ensuring that all patients and relatives are welcomed and orientated to theward/department environment

§ To assist with the care of distressed or bereavedrelatives

§ To assist with clerical and ward administrative duties, including data management, photocopying, transporting of equipment/data/ paperwork toother departments

§ To ensure that equipment is clean at all times, stored safely when not in use and report faults as appropriate

§ To ensure that stock levels of linen, sterile supplies and stationery are maintained at all times in conjunction with the nurse in charge/ward manager, wardreceptionist.

§ To liaise and work with other team support workers on the neonatal unit.

§ Restock the nursery areas and babies cot spaces daily with clinical supplies.

§ Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of all storage and clinical areas.

§ Be responsible for regularly defrosting and cleaning fridges in the milk storage areas and staff room.

§ Clean all equipment as per infection control policies and restock as appropriate prior to storage.

§ Launder baby linen and clothes and store in appropriate area in the linen room.

§ Make up rooming in rooms on SCBU as required and strip and launder linen after use.

§ To assist ward/department staff with general collection/delivery of items necessary to ensure effective operational management ofward/department

§ To effectively receive and provide clear and effective routine information and communication, both verbally and in writing. Promptly refers enquiries to the relevantperson

§ To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within the Directorate, Clinical Group and associated clinical areas within theTrust.

§ To maintain confidentiality at all times, in and out of the hospitalenvironment

§ To demonstrate an awareness of different cultural, ethnic and religious needs

§ Any other duties as required.

3.2 Personal and Professional Development

§ To ensure own attendance at mandatory study days and training as required by ward/departmentalmanager

§ To take an active part in learning/ development activities and updates skills and knowledge as required by theTrust

§ To actively participate in annual individual performancedevelopmentreview (PDR)

3.3 Management and Service Development

§ To manage an agreed workload with supervision and support fromcolleagues and senior staff

§ To work within and support the multidisciplinary team, contributing ideastoward futuredevelopments

§ To observe personal and collective responsibility for resourcemanagement

§ Assist with audits, surveys and research and developmental activities as necessary to own work

4.0 General

The post holder is required to follow Trust policies and procedures which are regularly updated including:

Confidentiality / Data Protection / Freedom of Information

Post holders must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 1998. Post holders must not, without prior permission, disclose anyinformation regardingpatients or staff. If any member of staff has communicated any such information to an unauthorised person those staff will be liable to dismissal. Moreover, the Data Protection Act 1998 also renders an individual liable for prosecution in the event of unauthorised disclosure of information.

Following the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) 2005, post holders must apply the Trust's FOI procedure if they receive a written request for information.

Information Governance

All staff must comply with information governance requirements. These includes statutory responsibilities (such as compliance with the Data Protection Act), following national guidance (such as the NHS Confidentiality Code of Practice) and compliance with local policies and procedures (such as the Trust's Confidentiality policy). Staff are responsible for any personal information (belonging to staff or patients) that they access and must ensure it is stored, processed and forwarded in a secure and appropriate manner.

Health and Safety

All post holders have a responsibility, under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and subsequently published regulations, to ensure that the Trust's health and safety policies and procedures are complied with to maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and employees.

Infection Control

All post holders have a personal obligation to act to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs). They must attend mandatory training in Infection Control and be compliant with all measures required by the Trust to reduce HCAIs. All post holders must comply with Trust infection screening and immunisation policies as well as be familiar with the Trust's Infection Control Policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as Hand Decontamination Policy, Personal Protective Equipment Policy, safe procedures for using aseptic techniques and safe disposal of sharps.

Risk Management

All post holders have a responsibility to report risks such as clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly. They are expected to be familiar with the Trust's use of risk assessments to predict and control risk, as well as the incident reporting system for learning from mistakes and near misses in order to improve services. Post holders must also attend training identified by their manager, or stated by the Trust to be mandatory.

Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults

It is the responsibility of all staff to minimise the Trust's environmental impact by recycling wherever possible, switching off lights, computer monitors and equipment when not in use, minimising water usage and reporting faults promptly.
