Are you interested in gaining experience as an inpatient mental health OT?

A great opportunity has become available to gain experience in our older adult inpatient mental health ward situated in Bletchley.

TOPAS is a 15 bed older adult mental health ward, serving both organic patients with dementia diagnoses, and patients with functional diagnoses such as schizophrenia and depression.

We are looking for a band 5 OT who is passionate, motivated and willing to join our multi-disciplinary team in providing recovery focused support for individuals with mental health needs. We welcome newly qualified OTs looking to gain experience and grow their skills in both mental health practice and physical interventions such as falls prevention and equipment provision. The successful candidate will have day to day support and supervision from the band 6 OT on site.

The post holder will work alongside the ward activity coordinator, other health professional within the MDT as well as external agencies to offer and facilitate an evidence-based therapy programme for patients during their hospital admission.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for the assessment of patient need and the development, implementation and evaluation of Occupational Therapy treatment and programmes of care, with emphasis on group and individual interventions and recovery focused care.

The postholder will take the lead alongside the senior OT in planning a high quality programmes of therapeutic and occupational activities for acute patient care, and be involved in ward based delivery of these as well as in the community, linking with wider statutory agencies and voluntary organisations

To educate and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, students, patients and relatives.

To work as part of the integrated multidisciplinary team, taking on the role of key worker and care coordinator where required
