Full Job Description

Due to career progression of our existing staff and developments within our services we have an exciting static opportunity within our respiratory medicine team. We are looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist or a Band 5 ready to progress to a Band 6 to join our respiratory OT team to help us to ensure that we meet the Trust's vision to provide every patient with the care we want for those we love the most. This post is for 18.75 hours per week. The post will be based on the acute respiratory ward working alongside both OT and MDT colleagues to implement and deliver a comprehensive OT service including specialist knowledge and education to our respiratory patients. Respiratory knowledge and experience is preferred however not essential and other relevant clinical experience will be considered. The Occupational Therapy service at NNUH has over 90 members of staff committed to providing high quality patient care across all specialisms. We have a dynamic working environment where two days are never the same. There is the opportunity to work with a diverse range of individuals, requiring many areas of occupational therapy skills and knowledge in order to have a positive impact at a time when it is needed most., As an autonomous practitioner, you will:

  • provide a flexible and comprehensive service to the designated area
  • independently carry out specialised assessments and appropriate intervention for our respiratory patients with complex needs incorporating physical, personal and psychological needs in relation to self-care, leisure and productivity
  • assess risks relating to the discharge process to ensure a safe and timely discharge of patients to the most appropriate setting
  • provide advice and information to patients/carers including instruction and training regarding use of equipment issued
  • carry out day to day supervision of qualified and unqualified staff

Travelling to work Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours. We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity. The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect. The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details. The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.
