Full Job Description

The Outpatient Department at Newham Hospital is the "Shop window" and is normally the first point of contact for the majority of patients. Many of these patients will be extremely nervous about their visit and therefore it is important that a friendly, efficient and effective service is offered by our reception staff.

Patients and their carers expect and have the right to receive first class service and this often starts by the way they are received by reception staff, prior to their meeting with the clinical staff. It is the duty of the receptionist to welcome all patients and offer them an efficient service through the system.

With the Government initiative around the 18 Weeks pathway, it is important that receptionists realize the essential role they have to play. It is the duty of the receptionists to record all activity on CRS, thus ensuring not only the pathway for the patient is recorded but also that the Trust is able to achieve the income from the relevant PCT for patients care

The team requires a highly organized receptionist to provide a range of duties.

You will be energetic, positive, hardworking and enthusiastic. Have an ability to work at pace, to multi task and to priorities work are key skills required for the post. There is a high volume patient contact so experience in Customer Services is a must.

You will enjoy working with a range of tasks and you will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. You will be computer literate, be conscientious and be able to deal with confidential issues. The post holder will have excellent communication and computer skills. Good keyboard skills and computer literacy are required as this post involves using the Cerner Millennium Care Records System (CRS) .

The clinics operate Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00 but we sometimes hold ad-hoc clinics in the evenings 17:00 and 20:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays which can be anytime between 8am and 6pm. You should therefore expect to work some evening and weekends as part of your full time hours
