Full Job Description

Do you want to take part in meaningful work which provides emotional fulfilment, personal growth, and community engagement? A young individual living in Melton Mowbray requires support with enhancing their life from either a self-employed or directly employed Personal Assistant. Role Requirements You will be required to support the client with becoming more independent, building life skills and accessing the community. They would like to:

  • try different foods and learn to cook
  • be able to cross the road independently
  • have a shower on their own and learn to shave
  • tie their own laces, make their bed, and use public transport
  • be able to access the toilet (they currently use incontinence aids)
  • access the community including revisiting Drayton Manor and going to Alton Towers.
  • You must have a full clean UK driving licence as you will have access to the client's mobility vehicle to support them to access the community. This opportunity is suited for someone who is responsible, reliable, patient, positive and proactive. Genuine applicants only please. The role is subject to interview, references and a DBS check (which will be paid for by the funding authority if you don't already have a certificate). Anything else you need to know: The client has been diagnosed with Autism, Learning Disability, and Speech and Language Delay which is described as a communication disorder. You will therefore need to speak clearly and slowly, making sure they understand what is being said. The client can show symptoms of anxiety, particularly when it comes to a change in their routine and meeting new people. They do respond well to one-to-one support. The client likes:
  • going out for activities and accessing the community and nearby attraction areas
  • theme parks
  • going bowling and playing golf
  • model cars
  • bird watching and feeding birds
  • quiz shows (The Chase is their favourite)
  • music especially Kisstory, dance and chart music
  • going for walks to the park
  • wide open spaces
  • animals including cows, horses and geese and they have recently started liking dogs.
  • The client loves to be able to go out often. They used to dislike noisy crowded places but they have got better with this. The client dislikes tennis and does not like change. They do not like confined places as they say this makes them feel closed in., This advert has been placed by Leicestershire County Council on behalf of a direct payments recipient. Leicestershire County Council is not the employer. You will either be self-employed or directly employed by the individual that you will be supporting.
