Full Job Description

Role is to provide support to a 9y/o boy alongside a parent, primarily as in-home support. He is a very happy, friendly, affectionate and chatty boy who loves jigsaw puzzles, singing, playing picnics/kitchen, and playing on his tablet, and will want to make you a good friend! He has complex additional needs - he is autistic, ADHD (awaiting assessment), has mild hemiplegia (Cerebral Palsy) affecting his left hand and balance, Epilepsy, Cerebral Vision Impairment, and Learning Disability. He has communication, sensory, and some personal care needs, no awareness of danger, and can display some behaviour that challenges such as hitting or jumping on others. The role is mainly to support with play, and supporting to have a calm but fun environment at home. This can be child-led, or if you enjoy being creative, on the weekend shifts in particular you can come up with fun ideas, bring things along, or make suggestions to plan activities with the resources we have at home.Details:

  • Supporting to safely play at home, sometimes alongside his older brother (10y/o) - encouraging engagement in a turn-taking games, following his lead to play with different toys, suggesting activities to help broaden his play etc.
  • Supporting with appropriate behaviour and communication - supporting calm engagement and emotional regulation, reminders to be polite and kind, giving time to understand, ensuring he doesn't hurt himself or others, modelling appropriate behaviour.
  • Limited personal care - occasional assistance with toileting (reminders, wiping) and washing hands.
  • Supporting child to be safe and following their Care Plan in the event of an epileptic seizure.
  • During school holidays and weekends there may be occasional days accompanying on day trips/outings to support, therefore own transport may be beneficial.

    Experience of working with/caring for children with additional needs,
  • Epilepsy first aid training or willing to undertake (provided),
  • Friendly, patient and understanding,
  • Reliable

    Up to 9 hours per week, varying each week but scheduled in advance:
  • up to 3 x 2hour shifts per week, evenings, 4-6pm.
  • up to 6hours (as 1 x 6hour shift or 2 x 3hour shifts), every other weekend, daytime, late mornings/afternoons, The rate of pay for this position is £13.50 p/h.
  • Hours and times of work will be up to 9 hours a week with exact times to be negotiated with the employer.
  • The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be the equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.
  • The post is subject to the following:
  • A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is needed, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
  • Evidence of your right to work in the UK.
  • Satisfactory passing of mandatory training care courses, cost of which be covered by employer.
  • Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
  • Completion of a satisfactory probation period of 3 months.
