Full Job Description
To be responsible for developing and shaping a Pest Control Service Operating Model aligned to resources, Council strategies, policies and procedures. Deliver a customer-focused, high-quality domestic and commercial pest control service in line with service specifications. Proportionate promotion of this service as it grows.
- To design and implement a deliverable business plan and sustainable operating model that can be scaled overtime to meet demand
- To create and evaluate revenue streams to ensure a sustainable pest control service, both with domestic and commercial customers
- Make a positive contribution to the delivery of the service, this will include working flexibly and positively to achieve the priorities of the Council and other services
- Working closely with the Environmental Health Manager and Lead Environmental Protection Officer to support effective working relationships and acting as an effective ambassador and advocate with external organisations
- Work with the Communications and Customer Services Teams to promote and shape the service and manage call demand, payment systems, IT systems and processes
- Manage the effective use of resources including capital and revenue expenditure. Monitoring and ordering of inventory stock and equipment, including vehicles
- Coordinate and execute block treatments, sewer baiting programs, and clinical waste collection and disposal
- Handle the decontamination of premises and articles contaminated with blood or bodily fluids, including potential HIV or Hepatitis B contamination
- Lead on specialised pest control vehicle(s) maintenance, procurement and address any vehicle and equipment problems found
- Manage and shape customer focused service and the effective use of resources
- Ensure that the council's overall vision, values and behaviours are central to the requirements of the service
- Business improvement: An initiator/driver of change with new ideas and initiatives to ensure the Department//Team continually improves through examining its business processes. Aim for the team to be a top performer. Ensure that business processes and legislative requirements are incorporated and reviewed
- Keep up to date, as the Council's expert, with developments in service delivery, legislation and best practice within Pest Control to ensure the service performs effectively, safely and to the highest standards
- To provide a training and development function in pest control to ensure the team is recognised as a "centre of excellence". To act as a "consultant" in order to give advice and assistance on pest control matters to managers and staff in the Environmental Health and Housing Service, Property and across the whole range of council services
- To support the Council's image, reputation, employee code of conduct and objectives
- To act as a resource of expert knowledge in all the functional specialisms within the remit of the post and maintain standards of knowledge, competency and skills by participating in personal learning and development where necessary or required
- To ensure that work processes are regularly reviewed, updated and improved to benefit the service, spending a proportion of time providing front-line service. Working towards, shaping and building a Quality Management System (QMS)
- To take a flexible approach to duties outside of normal office hours during changes in demand, staffing unavailability, crisis, emergency etc.
- To pro-actively lead and shape audits, monitoring, report on case load, to ensure prompt and effective actions, customer updates and satisfaction. To actively support performance, service excellence, customer satisfaction, achieve personal and team-based work targets, standards and project objectives and participate in the monitoring, auditing and reporting of individual and team performance as the team grows
- To actively foster positive inter-personal relationships and healthy collective team spirit for all team(s) within your area of responsibility. To be a flexible and effective team member
- To be responsible for leading and shaping activities under their control to comply with the Council's health and safety policy and ensure that adequate measures are taken to minimise risks to employees, staff, visitors and other persons
- To be responsible for the management of the process of receipting payments for pest treatments, meet all income and expenditure targets and provide accurate and timely budget information
- To be responsible for the monitoring, purchasing, proper use, maintenance, calibration, storage and safekeeping of materials, clothing, supplies and equipment
- Evaluate and assess potential tender submission for new business opportunities of large commercial organisations
- To proactively seek out commercial business contracts, procurement of supplies and equipment, professional training, and professional pest control organisation membership. Ensure that contract prices are made to reflect business cost and reasonable profit margins
- To organise, lead and shape the representations at Council meetings and or community events
- To carry out any other duties, including those required of any direct reports, commensurate with the grade and purpose of the job, the post holder's skills and the objectives of the Council
