Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Band 4 Manufacturing Technician to join our highly specialised, friendly team as a Senior Production Operator. You will work in a variety of pharmaceutical cleanroom environments and hold an accreditation for, or able to work towards, Pre-& In Process Accuracy Checking (PIPC).

We are looking for an individual who meets our health board and related professional values and standards, demonstrating these to improve patients experience with the delivery of a timely, high quality and patient-focused service.

The job is based at St Mary's Pharmaceutical Unit (SMPU) in Cardiff. The unit provides Pharmacy Technical Services preparing aseptic chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition for patients at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), including innovative and transformative Clinical Trials and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). In addition to this the unit manufactures 'specials' medicinal products to meet the individual clinical needs of a patient under MHRA license for pharmacies across the UK., To receive and process chemotherapy and PN prescriptions and manufacturing orders.

Perform aseptic tray and batch set-up.

Perform pre-process and in process accuracy checks for preparation and manufacture of medicinal products.

Prepare and manufacture pharmaceutical products using a variety of techniques.

To participate in the pharmaceutical quality system.

To participate in process and operator validation and equipment verification and calibration.

To work in a clean room environment wearing specialist clean room clothing.

To take responsibility for maintaining effective stock control and security of starting materials and consumables required for production areas.

To be responsible for the security and personal safe handling of high cost and/or high-risk starting materials and medicines related to production.

Previous experience working in an MHRA licensed manufacturing facility or comparable production environment is essential., Computer skills to include word processing and data entry i.e. spreadsheets and databases.

Good numeracy skills including calculations, percentages, decimal, fractions.

Manual dexterity to manipulate injections or prepare pharmaceutical products.

Approachable and professional manner.

Ability to remain calm in a busy environment.

Committed to continuing professional development.

To participate in staff performance and appraisal schemes, staff rotas including if necessary early and late sessions, weekend and bank holidays.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
