Full Job Description

Deployment will be on the Northern Endurance Project (NEP) with responsibility for managing the engineering delivery of the onshore pipeline and landfall between the onshore power and capture plant and the offshore pipeline. In addition, the Pipeline Engineer will also provide technical advice on onshore pipeline design and construction. Location will vary between Client office and contractor offices in the southeast of England, with potential visits to contractors and supplier locations in the UK and Europe, and to construction sites. The role

  • works with the ETLs (Engineering Team Leader) to deliver safe design and quality build, provided technical expertise into key project decisions.
  • Supports the ETLs in managing the project risk register and actively manages and maintains major pipeline engineering risks and opportunities
  • Leads self-verification and oversight for the defined pipeline scope and monitors contractor self-verification according to the established processes
  • Provides technical assurance and assesses conformance of contractor deliverables to requirements including project specifications, bp standards and international codes and standards
  • Proactively engages with the wider engineering team, construction team and commissioning team to review and manage multi-disciplinary technical interfaces and issues relevant to the pipeline scope
  • Contributes to technical meetings and reviews with the project team and the contractors (e.g. regular and ad-hoc meetings, HAZOPs, FLRAs, PHSSERs, Design / Safety / Constructability Reviews)
  • Produces technical reports (e.g. decision papers, technical notes) as required to support the project
  • Manages interface requests, technical queries, and deviation requests relevant to the pipeline scope
  • Supports applications for permits, authorisations and 3rd party agreements for the pipeline scope (e.g. pipeline works authorisations, crossing agreements, etc.)

    Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Chartership or Professional Engineering Status
  • Essential Experience
  • Technical background in onshore pipeline design and construction, including landfalls and major river crossings.
  • Strong experience and expertise in onshore pipeline engineering and construction
  • Detailed understanding of pipeline design codes, methodologies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Track record of delivery through effective project technical management and leadership skills
  • Experience of major projects and sound knowledge of project processes.
  • Experience reviewing and guiding work of others.
  • Ability to work independently and engage with subject matter expertise as required.
  • Pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge to ensure engineering value delivered.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Actively engages and respects contributions of others, open to honest feedback.
  • Empathetic, willing to put self in others shoes.
  • Desirable Experience
  • Experience with trenchless construction techniques for major crossings
  • Recent experience on UK onshore pipeline projects
  • Experience of bp design practices and processes.
  • Experience in performance managing Engineering Contractors to deliver Engineering
  • Experience in technology qualification and implementation
  • Experience in development and/or implementation of Pipeline Integrity Management schemes.
  • Experience working under a range of Contracting models (reimbursable, lump sum, etc)
