Full Job Description
This post is an exciting bioinformatician role in Genomics Public Health Analysis (GPHA), enabling the team to deliver cutting edge analysis in support of public health decision making, with a particular focus on outbreak response, horizon scanning, emerging infections and developmental genomics work. Work within the GPHA team is fast paced, responding quickly to changing public health needs.,
- Functions of the team include horizon scanning, cluster analysis, used together with epidemiological investigation, to inform the understanding of how viruses are being transmitted throughout the population, development of new analysis methods for emerging pathogens, reactive analyses for major national outbreaks, and collaborative working with epidemiology, modelling and academic partners. The role of the senior bioinformatician is to: To lead, develop and support strategies for bioinformatics approaches, following guidance from senior management, to provide programmatic bioinformatics expertise, to improve capability, to improve information dissemination to internal and external stakeholders.
- To have the ability to translate strategic and operational vision into reality through providing technical solutions and to manage junior bioinformatics staff.
- To be responsible for the planning and organisation of genomic analysis pipelines through requirements gathering, functional specification, implementation, deployment and testing. This is achieved through interaction with the appropriate UKHSA teams and external collaborators.
- To provide technical expertise and expert advice and guidance, in bioinformatics and genomics related to the requirements for specific Units or incidents.
- To provide expert and specialist advice to UKHSA and external staff on scientific and technical solutions for bioinformatics related to projects.
