The service involves active outreach with a straightforward entry into the service. Referrals will be managed within a national telephony and digital case management system and care will be provided both in-person or virtually.

The National Professional Lead for the Infected Blood Psychological Service will be employed by Newcastle Hospitals and will be responsible for professional leadership and oversight of the service, co-ordination of clinical delivery to ensure consistency and best use of resources nationally, working in collaboration with local and regional service providers to shape the development of services, to monitor and ensure equity of access for beneficiaries, to advise NHSE on capacity and demand, to build and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including NHSE and DHSC.

NHS England (NHSE) have procured and are establishing a Psychological Support Service for people infected or affected by the infected blood scandal. The service is currently being rolled out across England. Newcastle Hospitals is proud to be delivering local and regional services and to provide national leadership to the IBPS.

The IBPS model has been informed by long-term research and engagement with beneficiaries. The IBPS offers specialist psychosocial assessment and psychological support across 17 localities organized into seven regions across England. The service offers initial engagement with a patient navigator who will support the beneficiary through the service, together with formulation-driven psychological interventions, and access to peer support forums., Health Innovation Neighbourhood (on the former Newcastle General Hospital and Centre for Ageing and Vitality site)
