Full Job Description

Created due to departmental growth, there are opportunities supporting either IT Major Projects or Estates, both roles desirably welcome applicants with category knowledge as well as the below core skills and experiences.

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies to optimise value and efficiency
  • Lead supplier negotiations and establish robust contractual agreements
  • Foster strong relationships across departments and with external suppliers
  • Drive category management, benchmarking, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Promote best procurement practices and University-wide agreements
  • Manage and mentor direct reports, supporting their professional development

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Proven management skills
  • Proven record of developing strategic plans for a category of spend and evidence of successfully executing those plans (including supporting sourcing/tendering activity)
  • Able to demonstrate driving value for money/savings in a category
  • Able to demonstrate continuous improvement initiatives with category specific suppliers and internal customers
  • Proven record of ability to negotiate complex arrangements with suppliers
  • Proven record of ability to construct and negotiate on contractual terms
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to influence at all levels within the organisation
  • Commitment to promoting awareness and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion, and embedding these principles in your own interactions and more broadly among other team members.
  • Actively studying for or full membership of CIPS is desirable - experienced professionals who are not yet a member of CIPS will be supported in gaining CIPS accreditation.
  • Sponsorship and Right To Work This role meets the criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa. The University will meet the cost of the Skilled Worker visa and NHS surcharge for applicants that require a visa.
