Full Job Description
Applications are invited for a research assistant position in the group of Prof. Dame Clare P. Grey to work on the development of amorphous cathode materials for Na-ion batteries.
This project will involve the synthesis of cathode materials using a variety of methods (e.g., sol-gel, solid-state), followed by the development of methods to amorphise the materials. The electrochemical performance of the cathodes will be investigated and correlated to synthesis conditions and degree of amorphisation. The structure of the pristine and cycled materials will be characterised using techniques such as solid-state NMR spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction.
The successful candidate will synthesise new cathode materials, and therefore, experience with solid-state chemistry techniques is essential. Experience with electrochemical characterisation using techniques such as galvanostatic cycling, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is essential. Knowledge of electrode formulation and battery assembly is highly desirable. Familiarity with characterisation techniques such as X-ray diffraction and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy is essential.
Applicants should have (or about to obtain) a Masters (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline Demonstrated ability to work in teams is essential. A track-record of publication in relevant fields is desirable.
