The strong ethos of the school is reflected in its fabulous pastoral care and sense of community. The School is a member of HMC and has been judged 'excellent' in recent inspections. The School is growing in size and standing. As well as providing a fantastic learning and living environment for young people, Oswestry School offers an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding working environment. Oswestry School is located at the heart of its market town on the Welsh borders, with easy access to the great outdoors as well as good links to the local town of Shrewsbury and the cities of Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. Residential Boarding and Sports Assistant (Football and/or Athletic Development/ Fitness background) Our sporting mantra is to provide every pupil the opportunity to experience sport & physical activity positively and take ownership of their physical, mental & social well-being through sports and physical activity. We have 5 pathways of our sporting programme;

  • The Opportunity to Move
  • The Opportunity to Play
  • The Opportunity to Compete
  • The Opportunity to Excel
  • The Opportunity to Lead
  • With each of these focused pathways, a pupil can flourish to find their FORTE in the sport & physical activity arena. Oswestry School seeks a residential boarding and sports assistant to support sport, boarding and the wider life of this busy school from September 2025 until July 2026. The role is necessarily residential and will involve leading sessions, coaching, taking fixtures, inspiring pupils in sports and physical activity, along with sports administration during the day, as well as providing boarding supervision and activity leadership on some weekends and evenings. The successful candidate will be expected to lead coaching sessions (a background in football or Athletic Development/Fitness would be beneficial) and assist with PE/Games lessons and general sports duties throughout the day. Coaching qualifications or experience in a high-level sport are desirable, as would be any lifeguard or swim-coaching qualifications. The role will suit a recent sports graduate looking to move into the arena of coaching or teaching, with a passion and a desire to throw themselves fully into the life of the school. Weekend sport is an important part of the sports programme and the successful candidate would need to be able to commit to regular Saturday fixtures and the occasional Sunday fixture. The position is residential on the school site, and the successful candidate will be expected to play a part within the thriving and vibrant boarding community. This will involve planning and leading evening activities, supervising in boarding houses and assisting with boarding trips. The school benefits from excellent facilities including numerous outdoor football and rugby pitches, an artificial floodlit pitch, newly refurbished high jump and long jump areas, a spin studio, a weights studio, a swimming pool, excellent adventurous education facilities and a large sports hall with two indoor netball size courts used for multiple sports.
