The role is based in our Power team, reporting into the Sustainability Function. The role will be working extensively with our Procurement and Commercial functions to implement sustainability with the supply chain partners, aligning with our sustainability strategy, Building New Future.What you'll be doing

  • Work with the Group Responsible Sourcing, Procurement and Commercial teams to embed sustainability into the processes used to select supply chain partners, contractual requirements and monitor performance. Provide subject matter expertise on strategic tenders.
  • Work to develop a supply chain that is aligned to Balfour Beatty's Science Based Target requirements for Scope 3 carbon emissions.
  • Be the subject matter expert in strategic meetings with supply chain partners, customers and internal functions.
  • Manage supplier ESG tools and compliance. Roll out to our supply chain where relevant.
  • Be aware of the Power team's strategic growth objectives, upcoming projects and supply chain requirements, and inform the team with relevant knowledge about the responsible sourcing risks and opportunities these present.
  • Provide guidance to the team on ethical sourcing risks including modern slavery, from new sourcing regions or supply chain partners. Work with the Modern Slavery lead to ensure a robust approach to modern slavery mitigation is implemented. Develop a strategy for conducting ethical audits in high risk countries and sectors.
  • Enable the Power team to align with new legislation coming into force, ensuring the impact of this is considered at tender stage.
  • Advise the team on social supply chain requirements, such as social value, small and medium enterprises, social enterprises, local supply chain, equity, diversity and inclusion, and modern slavery.
  • With support from the Social Impact team, ensure appropriate alignment of any social value requirements (including Diversity, Equity and inclusions) commitments and KPIs
  • Develop and lead training and knowledge sharing with relevant stakeholders
  • Align closely with key Group Communities of Practice (CoP), such as supply chain carbon CoP, Carbon CoP, Resource Efficiency CoP, as relevant.
  • Represent Balfour Beatty externally, presenting to customers, supply chain partners and key industry organisations e.g. Supply Chain Sustainability School, Net Zero Pact
  • Identify best practices and implement change by working with stakeholders to improve day-to-day practices.
  • Subject matter expertise
  • Expertise in UK's Net Zero strategy and the implications for the energy transmission and distribution system
  • Strong competence in carbon including; Scope 3 reporting, PAS 2080, Environmental Product Declarations and whole life carbon.
  • Knowledge of responsible sourcing risks in the infrastructure manufacturing sector including human rights issues

    Essential
  • Knowledge of EU, UK and Regional Government sustainable procurement legislation
  • Have experience working with complex commercial supply chains and procurement functions
  • Strong knowledge of social, ethical and environment sustainability issues
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Have a business mindset and commercial awareness
  • Relevant qualifications in environmental sustainability
  • Proficiency in IT and ability to adapt to using new IT based platforms
  • Willingness to travel UK wide, with potential international travel
  • Preferable
  • An interest in supporting a just transition to climate change
  • IEMA or CIPS Membership (or equivalent)
