Full Job Description

  • Deliver high levels of courtesy and service to customers and donors
  • Accept donations from supporters and prepare donated goods ready for sale - including sorting, pricing and steaming
  • Support with effective stock merchandising and visual presentation on the shop floor
  • Promote and administer HMRC Gift Aid scheme in store
  • Complete product testing inline with safety standards
  • Serve customers on the EPOS till and ensure accurate cash handling in line with Hospice Policy. This includes reconciling and banking daily takings as required
  • Answer phone calls, emails and other communications as required
  • Support the shop/warehouse manager with initiatives to generate stock and grow supporter engagement
  • Promote the work and charitable objectives of Sobell House Hospice Charity Limited
  • Health and Safety:
  • Ensure Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to at all times by all staff and volunteers
  • Ensure the shop premises, shop floor and back areas are kept clean and tidy
  • Ensure safe use of equipment, reporting any necessary repairs and maintenance to management
  • Teamwork and Volunteers
  • Actively participate in 121, appraisal, feedback, and group meetings
  • Work effectively within a team of staff and volunteers; the need to work independently at times will also be required
  • Support with mentoring and onboarding for new staff and volunteers
  • Other Duties
  • Undertake occasional key holder duties including opening and closing store if required
  • Embody the values of Sobell House Hospice Charity, comply with all policies and procedures and carry out any other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Retail
  • Complete in a timely fashion, any relevant training as identified by the line manager or Director of Retail, or, as required by The Charity, to meet statutory or mandatory training requirements
  • Occasional attendance at charity events outside of core working hours may be required
  • Support managers to ensure that all activity is run in compliance with key rules and regulations, including the Fundraising Regulator, Institute of Fundraising, HMRC, GDPR, Information Commissioners Office (ICO), Gambling Commission and SORP, keeping abreast of all developments and guidelines.

    Wage: £13.16 Hours of Work:
  • Current store operating days are Monday - Saturday 8:30 - 4:30. The shop also takes part in occasional weekend events (including Sunday).
  • This role is for 7.5 hours per week
  • These hours are to be worked across 1 day(s) on a Saturday. (7.5hrs per day excl. 30 min break).
  • To provide flexibility within the rota, the role holder should also have availability to work these hours to support Sunday events as required.
  • Type of Contract: Permanent Probation Period: 6 months Job Reference: WIT-RA7.5-0325 Main Purpose: To support the store management team with day-to-day operations of the retail shop to maximise income raised for the Hospice through the sales of goods. Tasks and Responsibilities NB: Due to the nature of stock involved, some heavy lifting may be required as part of this role. Training and equipment will be provided.
