  • Medical Wards, including Renal
  • Elderly Rehabilitation
  • Orthopaedics, trauma and elective
  • Major trauma
  • Cardiac
  • Neuro Surgery
  • Hyper Acute Stroke unit
  • Neurology Rehabilitation
  • The post would include participation in the week end and on call rota following completion of appropriate rotations and training; some of the rotations involve rostered 7 day working. The department is committed to professional development and post graduate education which is facilitated through an established IPR and mentoring scheme, funding of courses and dedicated CPD time. You will be encouraged to gradually take on additional responsibilities, develop your clinical and problem solving skills and prioritisation skills Previous applicants need not apply, · To work as an autonomous practitioner; to assess a caseload of patients, who may have complex and/or chronic presentation, and to form a diagnosis and develop treatment programmes. · To have workload managed by senior staff and work under supervision of senior staff, with access to a senior member of staff or manager at all times. · To assist senior staff in the supervision and teaching of physiotherapy assistants and undergraduate physiotherapy students and be involved in the teaching of staff from other disciplines. · To undertake evidence-based practice and participate in departmental research and audit. § To adhere to departmental protocols, Trust policies and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code of Conduct and National Standards where they exist, To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service. This may include attending case conferences, ward rounds and discharge planning meetings. Ensure timely communication with the team leader on all professional matters. Service Delivery and Improvement To maintain professionalism in public, ward and rehabilitation areas To be an active member of the evening and weekend on-call service and/or orthopaedic service. To work a rostered 7-day service were implemented. To undertake other duties as may be deemed necessary by physiotherapy managers in the provision of the physiotherapy service. To undertake activities deemed necessary by clinical team leaders in the implementation of Trust policy and service development within the physiotherapy service. Assist senior staff in the measurement and evaluation of own work and current practices through the use of evidence-based practice projects, audits and outcome measures. To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and its application to the work situation, guided the by team leader if required. People Management and Development A. Physical Resources To ensure the safe use of equipment as part of physiotherapy intervention and the reporting of faults according to trust policy and to adhere to departmental equipment policy and the care quality commission. To comply with all trust policies and procedures and the Health and Safety at Work Act, including adherence to Universal Precautions and Infection Control measures. B. Information Resources To be responsible for maintenance of an accurate and evaluative record keeping system using POMR (Problem Orientated Medical Records) and Sap (Single assessment Process) format to demonstrate evaluation, analysis and clinical reasoning in the provision of patient care. To maintain the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Department's standards for documentation To record statistical information related to own activity and highlight variances in consultation with senior staff. C. Planning and Organisation To flexibly plan and prioritise own time to ensure that patient care, training, and meetings are undertaken with guidance from senior staff. To use prioritising and time management skills to meet the unpredictable and conflicting needs of the service with guidance from senior staff. To participate in departmental meetings including staff, unit and grade meetings as required. To report all complaints, incidents and accidents to the immediate senior member of staff as soon as possible and document according to trust policy. Patient Care Delivery To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload patient, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable, as an autonomous practitioner, for all aspects of own work. To ensure high standards of clinical care for the patients under your management as defined by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and departmental guidelines and protocols. To undertake the assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology. To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts using underpinning theoretical knowledge to form a diagnosis and prognoses in a wide range of conditions, with guidance from senior staff for more complex patients. To formulate and develop individual patient management, treatment and discharge plans, using clinical reasoning, current evidence and a wide range of treatment skills with guidance from senior staff for more complex patients. To demonstrate dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients e.g. specific soft tissue massage and manipulation. To continually reassess patients in order to progress treatments effectively. To advise the team leader of any problems to the service to ensure quality and effectiveness of care for their patients. To be flexible in working practice to enable support of other team members according to work pressures. Maintain patient confidentiality and dignity at all times and support peoples' equality, diversity and rights. To use theoretical and practical knowledge to refer to other health disciplines as appropriate e.g. for further treatment or specialist consultant opinions using appropriate referral systems and guidance from senior staff.     To adapt communication skills to encourage patients to undertake their treatment programme, including patients with communication difficulties e.g. Dementia, learning difficulties, visual and hearing impairments and non-English speaking patients. With guidance from senior, staff assess capacity to give consent, gain informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment such as patients who have dementia, learning difficulties or who are acutely confused, or who are sedated and ventilated. To persuade, motivate, reassure, empathise, explain and encourage patients in undertaking their treatment programme, ensure understanding of their condition and communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential. To clearly communicate sensitive information to staff, patients and carers with guidance from senior staff. To be able to diffuse potentially hostile and antagonistic situations with staff, patients, and relatives using negotiation and interpersonal skills. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.
