Full Job Description

Minimally invasive surgery has been in existence since 1980's. In that time, great strides have been made in the procedures that can be performed by laparoscopy. Unfortunately, very little has been done in UK with respect to formalizing a fellowship training program which lays out the essential components and requirements for adequate training in this area of expertise. The Senior Clinical Fellow position will train one person each academic year. The objective will be to train individuals who are dedicated to a future practice in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) and hence broaden the base of teachers in MIS. This post will give the Fellow a large exposure to advanced laparoscopic procedures in the management of hepatobiliary, bariatric and upper GI diseases. The consultant surgeons who are involved in the training program in MIS are also responsible for the training of general surgical Junior Clinical Fellows. There should be no conflict between these two levels of trainees., The fellow will spend one year in clinical training. During that year, he or she will be exposed to a wide variety of advanced laparoscopic procedures. It is expected that the fellow will be exposed to an excess of 200 advanced abdominal procedures. Also during this year the fellow will conduct clinical studies and participate in the collection of clinical research data. Publication of research material and presentations at national and international conferences is expected
