Full Job Description

BBC West provides multimedia content across Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire - across digital, TV and radio. And we have an amazing opportunity at the heart of our operation. You would join as a senior journalist working on multi-platform stories alongside our brilliant team of journalists. We have two positions available: one permanent, full time position and one part-time fixed term contract of 12 months., This is a fully multi-platform role. As a Senior Journalist you will be a key part of the multi-platform newsroom researching, gathering and editing content for online, TV and audio and working across both TV output and on our digital platforms in the West region. You'll also be needed to ensure our online content and stories are polished, make sense, are editorially and legally sound and have the best possible chance of success. You will have extensive journalism experience, ideally in both digital and television, and be a sure pair of hands who can cope with the pressures of multiple demands and breaking stories. You will also be working on other output such as producing the lunchtime TV bulletin and working on the main 1830 programme. You'll embrace the challenge of improving digital skills at the BBC and you'll be a big believer in teamwork; because you'll often be the person colleagues turn to for multi-platform content., We don't focus simply on what we do - we also care about how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you've read about our values and behaviours here. Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential. We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC - whether that's to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity. We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.

  • Significant experience of digital and television content
  • Sound editorial judgement, taking responsibility for output on matters of editorial sensitivity under pressure along with a commitment to delivering accurate and impartial journalism.
  • Know exactly how to best leverage our content for delivery across multiple platforms - and ensure that our stories get the best possible exposure
  • A willingness to experiment and try different approaches and formats in storytelling to reach new and different audiences.
  • The ability to work well with other journalists and teams across our newsrooms in the West of England.

Salary: £39,800 - £47,200 pro rata depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
  • We're happy to discuss flexible working. Please indicate your choice under the flexible working question in the application. There is no obligation to raise this at the application stage but if you wish to do so, you are welcome to. Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage. 1.
