Full Job Description

Starbucks senior manager, employee communications and engagement in Chiswick, United Kingdom We're looking for an internal communications and employee engagement expert to join Starbucks EMEA. This is a unique opportunity to join the Starbucks Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Corporate Affairs team and partner closely with Global Communications and Corporate Affairs, EMEA Marketing, PRO (HR) and other functions in the business to craft compelling campaigns that bring that brand to life for partners (employees). The corporate affairs teams have responsibility and ownership for driving key narratives about the Starbucks brand and bringing these to life through integrated communication campaigns across internal and external channels for a wide range of audiences. Starbucks also has an aspiration to be the employer of choice, by elevating the retail partner experience; ensuring careers have purpose; that there is opportunity for growth; and ensuring that partners can thrive throughout their journey with us. We're looking for a highly motivational and experienced leader to play an integral role within the EMEA Corporate Affairs team and the wider EMEA business. You will be a change-agent and responsible for driving impactful work in close collaboration with EMEA Marketing and specialist agency partners. With this in mind, employee communications is a strategically important business driver for Starbucks. We recognise the power of having a truly engaged workforce and that's why we make a significant investment in it. We have made great progress, but we know there is still much more to do. That's why we are looking for the best creative storytellers and communications architects to join us. For this particular role, you will be a motivational leader able to build on strong foundations. You will be a thought leader and a seasoned employee (partner) communications professional with experience of developing teams, influencing stakeholders and driving change in a fast moving, entrepreneurial environment. And you're creative too - skilled at how to connect with a wide range of audiences via multiple channels. You will be responsible for developing the overall strategic platform for employee communications in the region. You'll also be responsible for delivering against it, which means getting stuck in to drive weekly all staff meetings, set-piece town halls in collaboration with a production team, as well as flexing to draft talk tracks for regional executives and driving creative campaigns that build partner pride. Finally, as part of the small, collaborative and highly matrixed EMEA Corporate Affairs team you may be required to flex on occasion to support with other projects within the team as required, including staffing of the press office "hotline" at weekends, on rotation. What you'll do:

  • Develop the overall strategic platform for partner communications across EMEA in support of business strategy/brand and in line with the overall global partner engagement strategy, inclusive of narratives, channel strategy, and working alongside PRO (HR), marketing and brand partners on future partner brand engagement campaigns to build partner pride
  • Ensure consistent messaging and integration of all partner communications vehicles, leveraging the full array of communication solutions and establish an effective communications cadence/rhythm
  • Direct the ongoing development of an effective internal communications infrastructure
  • Provide internal communication expertise, counsel and support to leaders across the business
  • Partner with PRO (HR) to support the overall partner experience agenda for the region including stimulating advocacy by showcasing Starbucks as an employer of choice
  • Collaborate closely with globally dispersed, cross functional partners and a wide range of internal leaders and stakeholders
  • Manage and develop the wider employee communications team with a focus on creativity, storytelling, new media, communications planning and business partnership skills
  • Lead communication process improvement, identifying gaps and barriers to information flow with the use of research and assessment tools
  • Create and implement ongoing strategic metrics, both qualitative and quantitative to measure success and impact of employee communications strategy

Employee communications experience at a senior level - preferably in a global organisation
  • Able to build your own internal credibility and become a sought-after resource for communications advice and counsel
  • Act as a change agent in a highly ambiguous, ever-changing environment
  • Influence key stakeholders using smart consulting skills to understand business problems and opportunities that can be addressed, wholly or in part, via clear partner (employee) comms and engagement
  • Operate as a respected business partner, not simply taking direction, but driving strategic communications programs, providing valuable counsel, advice and appropriate pushback
  • Strong change management experience including complex organizational and cultural change
  • Technology savvy. Able to harness new media effectively with a keen understanding of all types of media/channels that will engage our internal audiences
  • Highly developed verbal, written and presentation skills. Creative, persuasive and diplomatic when presenting ideas
  • Proven experience of leading and developing highly resourceful and results-oriented teams - focusing on outcomes and impact rather than inputs
  • Strong organisational and project management skills with a focus on planning, setting priorities, managing process, and delivering results under tight time constraints
  • An effective communicator who can coach executives and senior leaders to be just as effective
  • A strong team player, who thrives in a collaborative setting and works well within a global, matrixed environment
  • Enthusiastic, creative and resourceful
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making judgment
