Full Job Description
Within our expanding acute inpatient mental health service, we have two newly created positions. The role of the Senior Occupational Therapist will involve supporting the Clinical and Operational Lead Occupational Therapist in providing strong clinical leadership, ensuring that wherever possible evidence-based practice is delivered to improve the quality of practice and to create responsive services. The post holder will support the Clinical and Operational Lead in their development of operational and clinical service mechanisms. This may include assuming the full range of responsibilities and accountabilities in their absence. The positions involve supporting and collaborating with Occupational Therapists at ward level, having an oversight of the Occupational Therapy provision and enabling transition to the Hope and Resilience Hub and community facing services. The Hope and Resilience Hub is a recovery focused part of the service. It promotes compassionate treatment and care in a safe and therapeutic setting for people in an acute stage of their illness. It enables supported and sustainable transition from inpatient to community services. Main duties of the job Have a high clinical profile that includes the provision of individual treatment, as well as having a global overview of interventions and clinical activities within the team. Demonstrate expert knowledge in the acute setting, ensuring this is disseminated in a constructive and effective way in the context of the recovery philosophy and the social inclusion agenda. Actively manage own workload, effectively and efficiently prioritising competing demands. Assess the needs of service users in complex situations using professional knowledge, judgements and skills to account for decisions made. Ensure all service users have an up-to-date occupational therapy plan that has been negotiated with the service user to meet their individual occupational needs. Demonstrate an understanding of leadership theory and how strategies can be adapted according to need. Working closely with ward based Occupational Therapists, ensuring delivery of an Occupational Therapy service to meet service user needs. Actively participate in clinical practice development through mentoring and coaching, in particular facilitating student education and fieldwork placements.
Essential
- Degree or Diploma In Occupational Therapy
- Education / evidence of ongoing : CPD, Reflection, Team Leadership skills and EBP Desirable Field work educators qualification Skills and Experience Essential
- Demonstrate post registration experience and expertise of mental health
- Evidence of specialised Occupational Therapy Assessments
- Evidence of facilitating a wide range of evidence based therapeutic interventions
- Analytical skills involving skilled interpretation, comparison and reasoned judgement in complex situations
- Supervision of Junior staff
- Evidence of application of theoretical models of practice.
- Evidence of working in an adult acute mental health setting
- Knowledge of research techniques and experience of clinical audit
