We are looking for an experienced SENCO with a passion for supporting pupils with special educational needs to join our friendly and supportive KS2 provision. Working closely with the head teacher and other senior colleagues, you'll use your leadership skills to manage SEN provision on a specific school site and to provide support to other teachers. Your responsibilities will include designing and delivering interventions with pupils in the classroom and implementing the school strategy. New Forest School is an Ofsted outstanding, small independent school with an excellent reputation for working with vulnerable students with ASD, attachment difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs and challenging behaviours. Students and staff benefit from access to excellent facilities on our split site school, including access to our school farm and Outdoor Learning Centre. Extremely small class sizes and high staff ratios allow us to provide highly bespoke and individualised educational provision to our students with additional support provided from our therapy and pastoral teams. Core requirements:

  • Help to develop and oversee the implementation of the school's SEN strategy and policy.
  • Carry out assessments of pupils with SEN to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers and parents.
  • Work with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans.
  • Provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents.
  • Make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school - this could include psychologists, health and social care providers, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SEN
  • Support teachers to develop schemes of work and learning programmes for pupils with SEN
  • Support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom.
  • Advise on the school budget and resources for SEN provision.
  • Qualifications and requirements:
  • Based in the UK and do not require sponsorship.
  • QTS or equivalent.
  • Degree or equivalent.
  • NASENCO qualification (or to be an experienced SENCo working towards this qualification).
  • A strong commitment to raising educational attainment for children and young people with SEN.
  • Effective leadership, negotiation, organisation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
  • What we offer in return:
  • Competitive salary
  • Comprehensive induction training.
  • Regular in-house training for all staff to support their role.
  • Funded professional qualifications.
  • Recommend-a-friend
  • Discretionary Manager & Peer rewards - Amazon vouchers/monetary reward.
  • Company Sick Pay Scheme.
  • Workplace Pension Scheme.
  • Rewards Gateway benefit scheme.
  • On-site parking.
  • Enhanced DBS covered.
  • New Forest Care is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children and Young People, applicants must be willing to undergo appropriate child protection screening, including employment references and DBS check.
