Full Job Description
The successful candidate will work within the LCL Molecular Pathology Department to support the delivery of routine genomics diagnostics within Cellular Pathology and play a key role in the implementation of new genomics pathways in Cellular Pathology services within the Cheshire and Merseyside Pathology Network (CMPN) The department is a Cellular Pathology Genomics Centre (CPGC) and the post holder will play a key role in delivery of activities to support the implementation of the National Genomic Test Directory in routine cancer pathways within Cheshire and Merseyside. The role will involve processing fresh and FFPE tissue prior to genomic analysis and the successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously and be competent in processing biological samples and be able to operate and problem solve specialist equipment used to process tissues for genomic analysis., The Specialist Biomedical Scientist is a highly skilled and experienced professional, capable of performing routine and specialised tasks in a knowledgeable way to assist in the diagnosis of disease, to determine their existence or absence, as well as to monitor treatment effectiveness. The post holder will play an active role in the performance of routine and specialised tasks involved in the Molecular Pathology service delivering a high level of quality and working to take into consideration health and safety regulations and financial viability. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to ensure that the daily workload is completed efficiently while adhering to all departmental policies and procedures. The ideal candidate would be a good problem solver and team player and have excellent communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as having the ability to function independently. The Specialist Biomedical Scientist is expected to take part in all aspects of departmental work and work as part of an efficient team. The post holder will be required to meet the requirements of all internal and external Quality Assurance and United Kingdom accreditation service (UKAS) standards and uphold the department's professional reputation in the Trust. The amount of £23 (standard disclosure) or £43 (enhanced disclosure) will be deducted from salary, in manageable monthly instalments for up to 3 months following commencement of employment. Bank posts require upfront payment. DBS applications submitted from 2nd December will be subject to the new DBS fee of £26.50 (standard) and £54.50 (Enhanced). From April 2017, Skilled visa applicants and their adult dependant(s) will be required to provide a criminal record certificate from each country they have lived in consecutively for 12 months or more in the past ten years. A vacancy has arisen within the Molecular Pathology Laboratory at Liverpool Clinical Laboratories. The post holder must hold HCPC registration and preferably hold an IBMS Specialist Diploma. Candidates without the IBMS Specialist Diploma but with demonstrable equivalent experience in Histology will also be considered. Candidates with previous experience in Molecular Pathology/Genomics with a strong understanding of normal and pathological tissue morphology will be highly considered.,
