Full Job Description

The post is for a Specialist Grade Doctor at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. The post is based at Royal Blackburn Hospital but activities at other trust hospitals may be required as part of the job plan. You will be expected to, amongst other duties, undertake outpatient appointment clinics and management of patients under your care and keep up to date with correspondence and provide effective communication with GPs and other healthcare professionals.Main duties of the job The post will consist of 9.62 PAs to deliver independent gastroenterology services to outpatients. The post will consist of 9.62 PAs to deliver independent gastroenterology services to outpatients. The 9.62 PAs will consist of: · 18.67 hours clinic (4.67 PA) · 7 hours admin (1.75 PA) · 5.83 hours RAS and A&G triage (1.46 PA) · 3 hours MDTs and clinical supervision (0.75 PA) · 4 hours SPA (1 PA) The majority of the appointee's time will be spent on clinical duties. In detail the duties will include: · OP clinics · Triage of primary care referrals into gastroenterology · Responding to A&G requests within required timescales · Preparation of such correspondence, reports and other documents as may be necessary during the performance of the above duties · The appointee may be required to take an active role in the teaching of junior doctors · Participation in clinical audit ·Other duties which may be allocated by Clinical Director to ensure the proper care of patients and management of the department (will be mutually agreed)

Applicants will hold a full registration with the GMC and a licence to practice Applicants will be MRCP or equivalent with a high degree of gastroenterology specific Training For Specialist Grade a minimum of 12 years medical work, continuous or aggregated, since primary medical qualification A minimum of 6 years gastroenterology experience at Specialist registrar, Staff grade or Speciality Doctor Grade Exceptional candidates who did not meet the full criteria for Specialist Grade appointment may be considered for appointment at Specialty Grade until criteria met,

  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • Desirable criteria
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent Higher degree
  • Gastroenterology Specific Training, Relevant Gastroenterology courses and meetings, Minimum of 12 years medical work, continuous or aggregated, since obtaining primary medical qualification
  • Minimum of six years of experience in gastroenterology at Specialist Registrar or Staff Grade or Specialty Doctor or Clinical Fellow level
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion independently in a range of gastroenterology problems within the specialty
  • Minimum of 6 months experience of working within the NHS
  • A wide range of clinical skills and practice in gastroenterology
  • Ability to lead when appropriate
  • Ability to work independently, Educational - Ability to teach and train other doctors and professions allied to medicine
  • Others - Clear written and spoken communication with other professionals
  • Research - Ability to clinically assess published research and incorporate it into clinically practice
  • Audit - Knowledge and experience of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles and practice, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

  • Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
