Full Job Description
Our Housing Solutions Service ensures customers can get housing advice and help if they're homeless or threatened with homelessness. The aim of the service is to help people in housing need respond proactively to their housing situation and find suitable and affordable housing.
In this crucial role, you will work in the community with refugees and persons granted humanitarian protection who are facing homelessness. The customers will include refugees who are no longer entitled to occupy Home Office asylum accommodation and others admitted to the UK under one of the safe routes. You will provide advice, work proactively to prevent or relieve homelessness under the council's statutory responsibilities, and assess housing need against a background of high demand for social rented homes and a need to explore other housing options. You'll collaborate with various departments and agencies to fulfil our statutory duties to homeless people and help others in housing need in our challenging housing market.
Refugees and persons admitted to the UK under humanitarian protection rules have, in many cases, suffered hardship and trauma. We are looking for someone who not only has knowledge of landlord & tenant, allocations and homelessness law, but also someone who is highly empathetic, robust, agile, customer-focused and able to work in a trauma-informed way.
Offer advice and guidance to those in your community without homes or in unsuitable housing. Support and empower them to improve their housing situation, helping to create a lasting positive change.
