You'll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with., Our Shared Service Centre (SSC) is looking to recruit an experienced Assistant Manager to run the daily operations of the Corporate Tax Hub, covering key focus areas aligned to operations, people, stakeholders and commercial. With support from a team of operational team leaders and technical experts, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the Hub looking at every opportunity to maximise its effectiveness and efficiency in terms of providing a first-class service to our internal clients, as we continue to support the Firm's Tax Strategy. The Corporate Tax Hub provides a range of corporate tax compliance services to the Tax Stream and this role will be a crucial role to help support the growth and evolution of the Hub in providing more support to the Tax Stream as aligned to its long-term growth plan. Therefore, to achieve success in the role, we are looking for somebody with the right mix of demonstrable knowledge and experience across the following key focus areas: operations; people; stakeholders; and commercial. The Corporate Tax Hub is predominantly based in Liverpool. Your role will be based in Liverpool (currently a hybrid model of 2 office days per week) and you will be expected to travel to BDO offices nationwide as and when required. Responsibilities This will be a challenging and rewarding role where you will:

  • Lead and manage a team of c50 people (with potential to grow) covering operational and technical skillsets: 3rd line manager with 5 direct reports in current organisational structure.
  • Oversee the operations and output of the Corporate Tax Hub team to ensure deliverables are to the required time and quality and are within budget.
  • Ensure that the firm's internal and external quality control procedures are adhered to.
  • Strong interest in people development and learning (Conduct monthly 1-2-1's, along with mid/end year reviews and tracking effective objectives).
  • Strong interest in improving operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Hub.
  • Comfortable working independently or collaboratively and able to use own initiative with a particular focus on problem solving skills.
  • Engage with BDO's regional client facing teams on operational performance (for example, quality and timeliness metrics and being point of contact/escalation).
  • Engage with the Tax Stream's wider stakeholders across the Firm in promoting and driving further adoption of service take-up as well as utilising forecast information from across the business to allocate resources accordingly.
  • Report monthly to stakeholders across the business on the Corporate Tax Hub's KPIs.
  • Manage recruitment of additional or replacement Corporate Tax Hub team members.
  • Support on-boarding of new service lines and other projects (i.e. Service Now).

    Demonstrable experience in operational management with teams of c50 FTE+, SLA delivery, quality management, planning & forecasting, and embedding the right culture.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Credible and confident to interact with stakeholders at senior level, providing appropriate challenge when required.
  • Strong leadership and people manager: empathetic and encouraging style to support Team Leaders and their team members to excel in their roles.
  • Excellent time management, organisation and prioritisation skills. Be able to lead by example and influence optimal performance of team.
  • Ability to use own initiative and take a flexible approach.
  • Desirable:
  • Specific business management or leadership qualification; and/or
  • Sector experience in Professional Services; and/or
  • Experience of performing or managing Accountancy or Tax related work.
