An exciting opportunity has arisen for a level 3 Teaching Technician in the Biomedical Sciences Teaching Laboratories. We are looking to welcome the successful candidate into the dedicated Teaching and Development team, providing excellent service as part of the team supporting practical teaching in the School of Biochemistry. Technical support for practical techniques, covering the academic concepts taught in such units as Biological Chemistry and Cellular Processes is provided by this role and their colleagues in the team. This includes techniques such as those cloning of DNA in E.coli to analysis of proteins associated with human diseases. You will also support academics delivering group final year undergraduate and lab-based taught post-graduate projects. The role holder will fully support teaching activities in their area, providing essential organisation and operational support in the preparation, set up and clearing of all teaching sessions.   • Organise, prepare and lay out equipment and consumables as required for teaching and conversely clear away after teaching sessions and ensure the space is ready for the next use.
  • Actively support all laboratory and equipment repairs and maintenance, liaising with the appropriate internal and external contacts to ensure continuity of service.
  • Maintain stocks of materials and consumables required for teaching.
  • Recognise and resolve problems, including complex issues, e.g. fault diagnosis, process improvement.
  • Interact with students and provide guidance and support in the teaching and learning environment, which can involve ad-hoc instruction or troubleshooting of equipment and reagents.
  • Contributing technical knowledge and experience to operational preparation and delivery of practical's as appropriate.
  • Working with the Leading Technician to support local operational safety, ensuring compliance with the relevant local rules, policies and legislative requirements.

    You have a proven track record of using initiative in response to evolving demands to enable delivery of excellent service.
  • You are committed to fostering productive and supportive relationships not only within your team but with all key stakeholders involved in preparation and delivery of practical teaching.
  • You have a particular interest in following the technical career pathway.
