Full Job Description
Taunton School seeks to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of (Academic) Physical Education on a part-time basis to a vibrant and committed department from September 2025. The successful candidate will teach Physical Education for GCSE, A-level and the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science, as well as compulsory practical physical education to students in Years 9 and 10.
This position is suitable for Early Career Teachers, for whom Taunton School has an extensive programme of support.
Academic and Core Physical Education play a key role at Taunton School, with healthy numbers of students choosing to study the subject at GCSE, A-level and for the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. As a Teacher of (Academic) Physical Education, you will be expected to provide stimulating, well-planned lessons and to deliver an exceptional educational experience for students. You will also be expected to contribute to the co-curricular and pastoral life of the school.

Indoors, there is a large sports hall, equipped for most activities; a modern and well-appointed fitness room, an older gymnasium, two swimming pools and two squash courts. Outdoor facilities include three astro-turf hockey pitches, four netball courts, used for tennis during the summer, numerous grass pitches for rugby, cricket and football, and a 400-metre grass athletics track. The School actively encourages and supports students to play to their full potential and over the years many have played representative sport at county, regional and national level.
We aspire to deliver exceptional every day, whilst creating a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals can thrive, find their exceptional, and be celebrated. Our 3 cornerstone values are Humility, Engagement and Kindness. If this sounds like a cultural fit for you, and you meet the job requirements, we would love to hear from you.
