Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary's College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. Value added data places us in the top 10% of all A- level providers.

The English Department is based in a modern suite of classrooms with smartboard projection facilities and a workroom with computers available for staff use. Around 200 students are currently studying level 3 English courses and there are also around 150 students taking GCSE. We have an excellent record of student achievement and staff work closely together to develop teaching materials and course planning. The Department also offers a range of enrichment opportunities for students, including creative writing and support for Oxbridge applications. There are regular theatre visits and guest speakers, and students are encouraged to participate in national competitions for playwriting and poetry.

Whoever joins us as a Teacher of English will teach a timetable that could include a range of courses from the Departmental provision. Wherever possible there will be flexibility over the subjects and aspects to be taught, taking into account, personal experience, skills and preferences. There will also be opportunities to teach across departments, although naturally this cannot always be guaranteed. In addition to your duties as a teacher, we will rely on you to act as a Personal Tutor - a vital role that involves motivating, monitoring, supporting and guiding students' academic progress through the College via regular one-to-one consultations. Our priorities are to maintain and extend our examination success and to maintain high levels of student satisfaction and achievement. We seek to ensure that we provide students with a high-quality experience of learning that is innovative, interesting and challenging and helps them acquire the skills and knowledge essential for their progression.
