As a department, we pride ourselves on detailed curriculum planning which uses the principles of interleaving and spacing, knowledge depth and scientific thinking. We take risks and trial innovative approaches to teaching difficult concepts at an early stage e.g. Rutherford's scattering experiment when learning about the periodic table. Not only have pupils risen to the challenge, they have successfully demonstrated outstanding progress with some performing at GCSE standard in year 7 and/or year 8.
