Full Job Description
Located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a modernising Council which is passionate and ambitious for the children and families we support, our communities and our workforce. As part of our transformation journey, we continue to build on our progress and put children firmly at the centre of our care. We can only do this because of our highly valued, skilled, and supported workforce.
An opportunity has arisen for a new Team Manager of the Working Age, Adult Social Work team which is part of the Integrated Health and Social Care Department at St Helens Council.
Are you passionate about making a difference for Adult's with a learning disability, physical disability and/or an enduring Mental Health diagnosis and want to shape the lives of all Adults in St Helens?
Due to the current Team Manager retiring, we are looking for a new Team Manager to join our amazing team and play a central role in achieving strength-based assessments and positive outcomes for Adults in St Helen's.
This post will work alongside that of the current LEAD AMHP, Team Manager post, the roles and responsibilities for the operational running of the team will be jointly shared.
About the Role
You will jointly manage a team of Advanced Practitioners, Senior/Social Workers, including AMHP's, Assessment and Review Workers and Administration staffing. This role involves managing the social work team which focuses on adults from 18 to 67 who are of a Working Age and either have a Learning Disability, Physical Disability and/or an enduring Mental Health diagnosis. The service is also responsible for the AMHP provision and all statutory work under the Mental Health Act 1983.
The service undertakes Social Care Assessments under the Care Act, Safeguarding investigations, work under the Mental Capacity Act and the statutory reviews for people under the age of 67 and for those with a Learning Disability. The service is extremely busy and there is a high throughput of work, we are also building closer relationships with our colleagues in the Later Life Service and hope to implement more joined ways of working.
You will have a detailed knowledge of current legislation including health and social care policies relevant to Adult Services, including the principles of assessment, strength-based approach, outcome focused care planning and the St Helens Practice Model. You will also have a great understanding around what is a Safeguarding and our Adult Safeguarding Procedures.
You will need to demonstrate a proven track record regarding staff leadership and management skills, excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Change is often happening within Adult Social Care so you will require knowledge around change management and service development skills.
As part of this transition, you will benefit from plenty of support to ensure your success in the role. While knowledge and experience are important, what matters most is your passion and dedication to making a meaningful impact on the lives of young people in the borough of St Helens.
Candidates must have experience of working to tight deadline and can be flexible in their time to the role, you must have a minimum of 3 years' experience in Adult Social Care and Health and experience of supervising and directing staff.
You must hold a Social Work qualification, CSS, or CQSW or DipSW or Degree in Social Work or equivalent. Applications are welcomed from those candidates that also hold the AMHP qualification.
You must be registered with Social Work England.
