Full Job Description
Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Research Assistant to join our team in Liverpool, UK. You will be assisting with the laboratory testing phase of the MaDiTraCe project. This role will involve dealing with and handling mineral concentrates and circular economy materials (e.g. black mass), and conducting laboratory test work involving various instruments in adherence to established methodologies and/or standard operating procedures (SOP). Furthermore, the role will involve the reporting of the testwork results to a line manager, and contributing to a written technical report for this European Commission traceability project.,
- Applicants must have their own method of transport and a full, valid driving licence.
- Travel between Alfred H Knight sites in Prescot and St Helens will be required.
- Travel to other locations within the UK may be required (e.g. Cornwall).
- Work and/or travel during weekends may be occasionally required. However, Alfred H Knight will accommodate as much as possible to have travel and work carried out during weekdays.
- Flexible working from home is possible, with line manager approval, for example when writing a report, or when working on non-laboratory based aspects of the project.
- International travel may be occasionally required.
Keen interest in the trade of raw materials, commodities, ethical practices and traceability. - Ability to work in a minerals laboratory, compile data and results into thorough, clear and structured technical report(s) and presentation(s).
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of manual dexterity and willingness to work while standing for prolonged periods.
- Knowledge of how to conduct experiments in a laboratory environment for research purposes.
- High level of interpersonal skills; comfortable discussing details and outcomes of the project with AHK staff, project partners, interested parties and the general public.
- A team player, working alongside AHK staff and external parties with positivity and respect.
- Ability to work independently and be able to use initiative.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting and presentations.
- Flexible in terms of the ability to operate and contribute in a changing environment.
- A willingness to take full ownership of the role and to go above and beyond.
- Presenting a positive attitude and taking pride in their work.
- Adaptable.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good timekeeping. Required Work Experience
- Experience conducting laboratory based experiments, analysing samples and using laboratory equipment.
- Experience evaluating and interpreting results of chemical and physical tests.
- Involvement with research project(s), which required data collection and thorough technical reporting.
- Experience with statistical tools for data analysis. Preferred Work Experience
- Experience testing and characterising materials.
- Experience in peer-reviewed research or publications.
- Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and external organisations to submit deliverables.
- Experience working within industry standards such as ISO and ASTM.
- Any other relevant experience with raw commodities, particularly metal and mineral commodities., BSc in a related scientific discipline (e.g. geology, geoscience, material science, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, environmental science or environmental engineering).
- MSc or PhD qualification in a relevant scientific, environmental or engineering discipline is not essential but is desirable.
