Full Job Description

  • Act as the venue technician, operating lighting, sound, video, and effects for the show throughout daily operations.
  • Ensure that the show encompassed within the Theatre runs consistently to the same high standard every day of operation, keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.
  • Respond to issues immediately with technical competency and a keen eye for swift resolution.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and always ensure the safety of visitors and internal teams, ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations.
  • Start up, maintain, and shut down the show daily, following strict operational procedures.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues in real-time, ensuring minimal disruption.
  • Escalate complex technical faults to the Duty Technician and Technical Services Team for further support.
  • Protect and maintain theatre assets and equipment to ensure reliability and longevity.
  • Communicate effectively with the wider Technical Services team and across all departments including Visitor Experience and Studio Facilities.
  • Monitor and replenish effect consumables, ensuring stock is maintained.
  • Work as part of the Show Experience team, covering weekends, evenings, and holidays.

    Education: Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Technical Theatre, Audio/Visual Engineering, or Control Systems.
  • Industry Experience: Significant experience in live event production, theatre, themed entertainment, or visitor attractions, with hands-on involvement in AV technology and show operations.
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex AV show systems, including theatrical lighting, integrated DSP audio, video systems (servers, signage players, projectors, screens), show control, and atmospheric effects.
  • Live Event Production Knowledge: Strong understanding of audio-visual principles, including show programming, cueing, and integration of lighting, sound, and video elements.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Experience in identifying and resolving faults within integrated AV systems, performing stringent start-up and shutdown procedures, and maintaining consistent show quality.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Up-to-date working knowledge of statutory and legislative regulations, including contractor management, COSHH handling, working at height (IPAF, LOLER), and Risk Assessments/Method Statements.
  • Record-Keeping & Reporting: Ability to maintain detailed logs, analyse data, and provide written reports for technical issue tracking and resolution.
  • Software & IT Skills: Proficient in Office 365 and production-related software such as Adobe Creative Suite, video editing tools, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and format conversion tools. Experience with portable control devices (e.g., Apple iPads, integrated touchscreens) for AV system operation.
  • AV Protocols & Networking: Knowledge of AV standards, including video aspect ratios, frame rates, resolutions, and audio formats. Basic understanding of IP-based control systems, networking, and temporary electrical installations, including mains and signal cable assembly.
  • Certifications & Training: Relevant industry qualifications such as PASMA, IPAF, or Forklift certification are advantageous. Additional training in AV fields such as Dante, Q-SYS, ETC EOS, and Show Control is beneficial.
