Trading & Shipping Placement

The one-year internships within T&S are designed to take place in the penultimate year of your studies. You will work with a team based on bp's London trading business. This offers you the opportunity to gain experience in a highly visible role in a dynamic commercial environment. You will be working in a role with real impact to our business. You'll be placed in a team with opportunities to showcase and enhance your skillset, follow your ambition and be part of the team's success. Examples of previous roles include:

• Carrying out research and analysis into a particular market or new jurisdiction and producing a strategy to help support trading decisions and growth.
• Producing daily news/customer information reports to highlight market information and opportunities for trading and origination that can be acted upon.
• Analytics in support of our fundamental and demand supply view for short/medium term revenue activity.
• Working to automate and optimise systems, reports, and analysis to speed up trading processes and decisions using various data science techniques.
Throughout, you will have on the job training as well as industry-leading learning to develop technical and soft skills. Alongside this, a graduate buddy will help you network and learn everything you need to perform in the organisation. During the internship, you will be assessed for your suitability for the T&S development programme. You will have the opportunity to learn about the development programme tracks through networking, training & information sessions before making a decision on whether you would like to be considered, and if so, which development track you'd like to apply to.Trading & shipping development track career pathway: Commercial track Every year, bp invests billions of dollars searching for new sources of energy, supplying our customers with the fuels they need. You'll help to ensure we make the best use of our investment for bp and for our customers. We want you to be in the best position to propose new and creative ways to maximize value. This could see you working in our Marketing & deal Origination teams or in physical operations or other areas which support trading ideas and deals. The commercial track will give you the opportunity to develop strong commercial acumen which is supported by the different rotations you will undertake. Trading track You'll be part of the teams managing our trades on all the major energy commodity exchanges as well as our daily exposure to global currency and interest rate fluctuations. You'll have the opportunity to experience different trading disciplines and styles from physical trading to paper trading, even the possibility to specialise in quantitative trading. Over the course of the 3-year programme you'll complete rotations that are designed to give you the opportunity to build your skills and knowledge in a trading environment. Analytics track Analysts have an opportunity to directly influence the bottom line as part of a highly commercial and skilled team. Working in the fast-paced world of our trading business and with access to vast amounts of data and information, you'll focus on rotations that are designed to build your skills and knowledge to drive continued growth in trading profits and acting as a subject matter expert on energy market fundamentals. T&S Analytics includes a range of disciplines, some of these are mentioned below:
• Short term market analytics (Strategists): seeks to identify and understand fundamental drivers that influence market prices up to two years forward. Analysts are often co-located on the trading desks, and employ models of supply and demand, physical storage, weather, shipping, and power generation, coupled with real-time data feeds, to provide actionable commercial insights to the front-line trading teams.
• Fundamentals Modelling & Innovation: We spearhead our digital ambition, advancing our fundamental modelling capabilities, leveraging AI and Machine Learning to generate data driven insights, increase automation, and delivered in line with the trading bench / discipline strategies.
• Strategic insights: Identifying high margin deployment of capital expenditure , offtake and sale decisions and highlighting investment and trading opportunities for T&S and bp in incubatory and established energy markets.
• Structuring: Works closely with the trading and origination teams to structure and value complex financial and physical transactions. The modelling of key drivers of financial value, deal scenario analysis and designing tailored customer solutions are a strong focus for the team., Accommodation - once confirmed, where you need or decide to move closer to your location, you are responsible for organising and funding this accommodation.
  
  You'll be based in one team throughout your internship, working on real projects that you'll be able to manage through to completion. Throughout you'll have the support of a dedicated line manager and a buddy from one of our early careers programs. Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you'll have the opportunity to attend events and socials with other interns, take part in training sessions to help develop your interpersonal skills and network with leaders from across bp. The program is designed to help build your skills and technical knowledge whilst also allowing you to learn more about life at bp., Intern: To apply for this role, you must be in your penultimate year of study (those going onto a Master's and PhD students can apply), and be on track for a 2:1 in any discipline.
For this role you are expected to have strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English. Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.
