Full Job Description
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and motivated tree professional to join our brilliant tree-planting team and make a real difference for people and nature.
What will I be doing?
You will identify opportunities to plant trees in public realm spaces including the highway, parks and green spaces, supporting Bristol's ambition to increase tree canopy.
You will work closely with colleagues across disciplines including Highways, Parks and Housing.
You will also work with partners including the Bristol Tree Forum, Trees for Streets and Forest of Avon Trust, as we work collaboratively to progress tree planting in the city. You will be engaging communities in tree planting and leading engagement and consultations to ensure that tree planting is appropriate and welcome.
You will prepare specifications for tree planting including for larger stock trees in more urban locations requiring engineering solutions.
You will be part of our ash dieback canopy recovery programme.
You will commission surveys and instruct contractors in planting.
You will manage existing funds for tree planting and be part of a team effort to attract additional funds.
You will support our One Tree Per Child community tree planting programme and will be given training on supporting events.
What do I need to have?
We are looking for someone with at least a NVQ 4 qualification (e.g. Higher National Diploma) in arboriculture or a landscape discipline or equivalent.
You will have direct experience of developing and delivering tree planting in an urban setting, including experience of delivering engineering solutions and best practice approaches to tree planting and establishment.
You will be experienced in public consultation and in engaging communities to support tree planting.
You will be familiar with commissioning and contracting work. You will be enthusiastic and motivated and be able to work as part of a team.
