Full Job Description

We are a newly established charity driven by lived experience, and we're looking for committed, thoughtful individuals to guide our strategy and governance during this exciting stage of growth. As a Trustee, you'll play a key role in shaping the organisation's direction, ensuring we stay aligned with our mission and values. You'll contribute to board discussions, help make decisions that shape our future, and support the development of partnerships, advocacy, and fundraising efforts. Your voice will help make neurobetter a stronger, more inclusive charity - one that centres neuro-affirming practice and challenges stigma in real and meaningful ways. You don't need to have previous trustee experience - what matters most is your commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-led change. We welcome applicants with a range of backgrounds, including those with professional expertise in governance, healthcare, or the voluntary sector, as well as individuals with lived or personal experience of neurodivergence or mental health challenges. Neurobetter is a neuro-affirming charity and many of our Trustees, staff members and volunteers represent the whole spectrum of neurodiversity. We particularly value collaborative thinkers - people who listen deeply, are open to different perspectives, and feel energised by working with others to create lasting change. Board meetings are currently monthly (moving to quarterly), with additional working groups and occasional events. If you're ready to help us create something bold, inclusive, and impactful, we'd love to hear from you. What are we looking for? Our Trustees bring thoughtfulness, empathy, and a genuine commitment to equity and inclusion. They may have experience in governance, leadership, or advocacy - or bring insight from their own lived, professional or personal journeys with neurodivergence or mental health. They are reflective, strategic thinkers who ask good questions and listen well. They value collective wisdom and create space for others to be heard. They understand that good governance isn't just about rules - it's about relationships, trust, and keeping communities at the heart of decision-making. Our Trustees champion a neuro-affirming approach: one that values difference, challenges stigma, and sees strength in varied ways of thinking and being. They help ensure that neurobetter's culture is inclusive and trauma-informed, and that our strategy stays grounded in the realities of those we serve. Whether they're reviewing strategy, supporting staff, or joining a working group, our Trustees lead with curiosity, humility, and care. We're particularly interested to enhance our Board of Trustees with Trustees with medical/clinical backgrounds (either within neurodivergence or mental health), marketing/PR skills, or fundraising experience. What difference will you make? As a Trustee of neurobetter, you'll play a key role in building a charity with the potential to shift attitudes, improve services, and drive real systemic change for neurodivergent people who struggle with their mental health. Your insight will shape decisions about how we grow, where we focus, and how we advocate for change. You'll ensure we stay true to our mission and accountable to our communities. Your presence on the Board will help build a culture of curiosity, challenge, and care - where diverse perspectives are welcomed and lived experience is seen as expertise. You'll help guide the strategic direction of the charity, support its financial stability, and contribute to creating a governance model that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering. Ultimately, your contributions will help ensure that neurobetter is not just an organisation that works for people with lived experience, but one that is actively led by and shaped with them.
