Contract Type: Permanent
Reports to: Head of Prep
Term: September 2025
This is a very exciting time to join Westholme Prep. We are looking for a hardworking, dedicated and inspirational Key Stage 2 teacher to join our enthusiastic team at one of the leading independent 4 - 18 schools in the North. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and passionate class teacher to join our Prep team and lead the provision of music across the Prep School.
The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive staff who are committed to working together to achieve the best for our children to help them grow and develop into independent, resilient and life-long learners. The successful candidate will have an excellent track record, the ability to teach the full range of primary subjects at KS2 and the flexibility, experience, and confidence to teach any year groups throughout the Key Stage.
In Prep, most lessons are delivered by the Class Teachers, although there is specialist teaching in IT, French, Music, Outdoor Learning and PE. All pupils study French throughout their time in the Prep and there is a high successful and popular biennial trip to France to develop language and learn about the culture. Prep 6 spend a day a week at Seniors using specialist facilities and helping to improve the transition for the move to Year 7.
There is real commitment to learning outside the classroom, with regular trips to places of educational interest to support the curriculum. An impressive range of co-curricular activities is also arranged for pupils. The programme changes termly but includes: string group, ballet, choir, cricket, cross country, drama, yoga, LAMDA, orchestra, recorder group, fencing, Art Club, dance, swimming, Scrabble club and woodwind group. Some of these sessions occur over the lunch break but most take place after school.
Pupils are given the opportunity to play in inter-school fixtures and all are welcome at training sessions. The main sports played are hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, football, cricket and athletics. The School is also very strong in swimming and cross country running, making full use of the excellent sporting facilities.
Culturally, Westholme is alive with a wide variety of music groups, choirs, playing and singing including a Prep orchestra; there are many opportunities for pupils to perform in concerts and at festivals. The School's impressive professional theatre is used by the Prep for all performing arts.
