Workshop Controller (HGV Commercial)

48 hours per week, across Mon to Fri 08:00 - 18:00 & Saturday availability as and when required in line with the needs of the business (between the hours of 08:00 - 13:00), alongside 1 hour unpaid daily breaks.

The role -

You will be responsible for ensuring all work to vehicles in the workshop is carried out appropriately whilst taking into account all contributing factors, this will involve assigning work to technicians and communicating with both customers, suppliers and the team as a whole.

You will readily be on hand to answer any questions or queries from internal and external sources and will report directly in to both the Managing Director and Operations Director, whilst being directly supported by a Workshop Supervisor and an Office Administrator.

Manage and take on responsibility of the workshop on a daily basis.

Management of the workshop and all associated service functions to improve efficiency, productivity, cost saving and profitability.

Prioritising and scheduling workload to meet both customer and business needs, taking into account factors such as complexity, availability of parts, workshop targets, pre-existing bookings I.E., MOT's.

Managing and coaching a team of vehicle technicians and apprentices, making sure targets and business objectives are met.

Providing estimates for servicing and repairs, whilst managing expectations and timescales.

Responsibility for ensuring all on site rules and regulations are implemented and adhered to.

Working closely with the company's senior management team.

Chairing staff meetings and reviews, ensuring prompt, clear and open communications are delivered.

Hands on technical support and assistance to the workshop as and when required.

Monitoring of job cards, service documentation and other documents.

Ensuring provisions and the ongoing condition of the workshop, tools and equipment are maintained.

Liaising directly with the workshop supervisor to ensure standards of work, competency and deadlines are adhered to, whilst ensuring cleanliness and a safe working environment are maintained at all times.

Responsibility for staffing, cover of technicians due to absence/holiday and authorising of overtime.

Stock ordering, warranty claims, quality control, etc.

Any and all other duties that befit the role and in line with the needs of the business.

Previous experience of successfully managing, deputising or supervising a commercial workshop environment.

Previous experience working as a HGV mechanic technician with relevant industry qualifications.

An understanding of recording and delivering on KPI's and workshop performance measures.

An understanding of the importance of customer focus and relationships.

An understanding of collaborative and team ethos management and development.

Knowledge of relevant licensing requirements e.g. Operating licences.

Excellent leadership skills.
