Full Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director RSSD, (Head of Contracts Policy & Compliance) and working closely with the RSSD College Hub Leadership Teams, the Trusted Research Manager (TRM) will work with senior colleagues to: develop a consistent framework of operation for regulatory compliance and adherence with funder terms and conditions; support the training and development of RSSD colleagues and academic staff in matters relating to Trusted Research; and support the delivery of the University's control environment with regards to research regulatory matters. The TRM is a new post within RSSD that will have an opportunity to work at a senior level to support and drive the next stage of our Trusted Research strategy and policies, Being approachable and open to staff within the RSSD and the wider University is a key element of the role. Key internal stakeholders include researchers, senior academic leaders, and RSSD colleagues, and the Trusted Research Manager will also have the opportunity to develop relationships with partners, funders and HEIs from across the sector. Developing staff in an inclusive environment that supports all colleagues to thrive is key to the RSSD culture and that of the wider University, and the successful candidate will be supported to continually develop their own professional practice. Main Duties

  • Support the Assistant Director, RSSD (Head of Contracts Policy & Compliance) and the RSSD College Hubs Leadership Teams to develop an internal framework for the delivery of the Trusted Research agenda at the University.
  • Receive and review queries relating to Export Control (research), support referrals to the ECJU and RCAT. Draft and support export licence applications where required.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Professional Services and Academic colleagues on matters relating to Trusted Research.
  • Implement, oversee, and regularly improve our Trusted Research processes, and associated guidance, and support the development of training programmes for our Professional Services and Academic staff.
  • Support internal networks across professional services and academic services to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach t trusted research, allowing mechanisms to be put in place to ensure compliance across all university activities.
  • Be well networked and informed about potential new developments/changes to legislation that may affect the University's delivery of research.
  • Provide input into high quality written papers /reports and presentations on a range of topic areas associated with the wider responsibilities of the role.
  • Deputise for the Assistant Director RSSD (Head of Contracts Policy & Compliance), attending meeting with internal and external stakeholders to offer expert advice and support relating to Trusted Research.

    People are at the heart of what we are and do., Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications) plus relevant practical experience - where no equivalent qualification is held substantial practical relevant experience and expertise in a series of progressively more demanding roles will be required.
  • Experience of providing support to complex issues, with an ability to disseminate that expertise to others to ensure understanding and compliance at all levels of the University.
  • Proven ability to write clearly for a variety of audiences, and to produce and analyse source material, information and data.
  • Knowledge of the geopolitical issues impacting the UK and/or overseas research funding environment, including broader sector/commercial awareness.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills, with proven experience of managing complex processes and engaging with peers and staff who are not direct reports.
  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to analyse complex qualitative and quantitative information and present conclusions clearly and concisely.
  • Judgement and proven problem-solving skills that will help to identify and implement improvements and efficiencies across the service area and beyond.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Highly proficient IT skills, including the MS Office suite. Confident and able to quickly learn new IT skills and software packages as required.
  • High level of self-motivation and personal accountability with ability to plan and deliver goals to deadlines under pressure.
  • Experience of championing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Ability to monitor and evaluate the extent to which equality and diversity legislation, policies, procedures are applied.
