Full Job Description
In this role, you will act as a Deckhand on the pilot launches, helping pilots with safe boarding and landing at sea and during mooring and unmooring of large commercial vessels across the Port. You will communicate via VHF with vessels, agents and Port Marine Services teams. You will assist with daily cleaning of the pilot station and surrounding areas, general maintenance and checking of port operated craft.
It would be beneficial if you have previous experience of vessel mooring operations and working at sea, using short range VHF radios and knowledge of small fast craft, however training can be given. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and, whilst this is a casual contract, you will be willing to work flexibly as part of a 24/7, 365 service when required.
You will hold, or be able to gain, a ENG1 Medical Certificate or equivalent, and must hold a full driving licence.
Are you seeking an opportunity to start your career in the marine industry? Are you excited by the chance to support the effectiveness of operations at the Port of Great Yarmouth by helping pilots in the save navigation and mooring of vessels? We are seeking a Casual Deckhand to work with our Marine Team.
In addition to a competitive salary, we have a strong track record of developing our people to expand their skills and experience and develop their careers.
